  1. Ok everyone get out your gear charts.

I am stating out again on the track after quite a long time off. I have decided on running an 88.2 (49 Chain ring and 15 sprocket) to start out and get the hang of it all again.

I was wondering what gears you are all using on out door tracks for all your different races?

  2. 82 or 84 to warm up on, and then depending on weather conditions-

scratch races, eliminations & points 88 to 94
    motorpace 94 to 98
    handicaps 88 to 92 (heats), 92 to 96 (finals-if im lucky)

the hotter it is the bigger the gear you need and vice versa

you should race indoors, nothing like the feel of a wooden track 🙂

  3. What you’ve got now might be ok or maybe 48 / 15 to get into it then 50-52 / 15 for when you get stronger and depending on the event. Generally you’ll need lower gears on outdoor tracks due to wind and higher rolling resistance you don’t get on indoor boards.

    I ride on a 333m concrete track that’s a bit bumpy and so never go much over 50 / 15 (90”)

    Jay.

  4. Masters 2 rider.

88 for training. 93.6 for racing sprints and kilo. I have used 96 for riding second wheel in the team sprint. (that was indoors though)

  5. Thanks for all your help here guys as it has been a while since i have ridden seriously.

So really i need :48-49-50-51-52 Chain Rings
    13-14-15-16 Sprockets

That should give me anywhere from an 81 gear to 108.

  6. that sounds like a good selection of gear sizes, btw i run 47 to 51 and 13 to 16.

you should come up and race at disc in northcote on a thursday night. you get 3 races, scratch, points and motorpace for $10 entry fee with prize money.
