  1. Out for a ride this afternoon. Near gale force wind whistling up the
roads, cold horizontal rain stinging like spearpoints, huge puddles all
over the place. Stopped in a village to get a dry Buff out of the
pannier. Chap in walking boots and full waterproof gear goes past and
says "Great day for it!" "Isn't it just!" I reply. Swinging leg back
over the bar, I suddenly realise, the guy wasn't being ironic, he really
meant it was a great day to be out. I also suddenly realise, I meant it
    too when I replied.

People like us must be missing the sensible gene!

It was entertaining seeing some of my fellow cycle commuters rolling in
ten-fifteen minutes late on a twenty minute commute this morning. There
is something about riding into such a wind and rain that really sets
you up for the day [1]

    ...d

[1] when followed in short order by a hot shower, large mug of tea and
    a bacon and egg roll..
