I have been cycling more and more recently, and have been noticing an increased amount of pain right around my knee cap ... particularly near the top, i have not banged up my knee or anything, it has juts really started bothering me.. i doubt it is because my seat is to low, what could this be from, has anyone had a similar problem and how did you deal with it
Sounds like inflammation due to overuse - happened to me. This is why you have to gradually increase the amount you do; It takes time for your body to adapt.
Or - it could be a seat position problem. Did you have your bike properly fitted when you bought it?
Going from a flat 40 mile Saturday to a hilly 100 miles the next did it to me but some easy pedaling ussually gave my knees a chance to recover HA on a long ride helps to.

Hard to say without any other info, but maybe your seat is a little too low. (or too far back?) I had the same problem. It might be worth having some one look at, i.e. professional bike fit. For me, it was worth its weight in gold.
If it is it is a micro adjustment I just lowered my seat about an 1/8 of an inch a month ago to avoid hamstring pain that was bothering me before. I was so sure of this position I marked the seat post with a file.

I sometimes feel a similar pain when going down stairs after a hard workout, especially the next day. I find that a day or two off makes it disappear. It used to scare me but now that it hasn't developed into anything, I don't pay much attention to it.
