Then you weren't riding hard enough. <Yorkshire accent> When I were a lad we used to ride without
gloves unless there were snow on the ground. And our water bottles froze at the cafe stop. And
people used to break cranks in the freezing weather. </Yorkshire accent>

Oddly, all the above is true, but I'm not sure if the cold really had anything to do with the
crank breakage.

Cheap pair of M&S fleece gloves over the top of fingerless ones does the trick for me (unless it's
sleeting down like tonight in London).

I got one on the Brompton going home yesterday evening. Rather than fix it in the cold at the
roadside (Brompton wheels aren't easy to deal with and I find back wheel punctures very tricky), I
walked the 3/4 mile or so home.

I got out the FW Evans this morning, which I hadn't used in a while. Little bit of air in the tyres

that. The old inner tube appeared to have a nip puncture, but when I pulled on it slightly, the tube
split right through around its circumference.

I was praying I wouldn't have to stop to mend anything going home tonight - I got covered in sleet
and very wet and cold feet. As the traffic was backed up solid in the narrow streets near me, I had
to get off and walk the last few hundred yards on slushy pavements.

Fingers weren't too bad, though the gloves were wet through as well.

Never understood the point of fingerless gloves for cycling - I need gloves 'cos it's my fingers
that get cold!
