OT: What nice weather!

opened the windows but can't hear the birds because the yard-guys are
running around with leaf blowers.

Can't decide if I want to grill burgers. I kinda have a hankering for tacos
so that might win out.

yesterday and we did not grill the filet mignon as planned. I ate left
over spaghetti. Tacos were on the menu tonight but we'll have the steak
instead. He's just gonna' have to wait 😉

Sounds great
In south western Western Australia we have a storm front going through.
It's about 12 degrees C with repeated rain squalls and very strong winds.

I went down the beach this morning and was almost blown back to my car.
I've experienced stronger gusts before today but cannot remember such
consistently strong wind.

Still, both my water tanks are now full ready for a long hot summer.

At any rate, the first time I heard of fish tacos, I thought it was some
kind of california joke. Like submarine races. Fish tacos are a real
thing? (laugh) I was pretty amazed, it just doesn't sound like real
food to me.

While in Mexico several times on holidays, shrimp tacos were commonplace and
lots of times served at your hotel for breakfast. You could always get them
for breakfast at about any place, and any other time. Yum!

Won't get that from me -- I'm on the Left Coast and love seafood;
still can't imagine eating a fish or shrimp taco. Mine have to be
beef or chicken (usually beef). Ah well, to each their own... :-)

And they were exactly right. The "worst" in Baja would be something
like those at the fish pier in Ensenada: small chunks of hours-old
yellowtail, dunked in a light (beer-like) batter, fried in 1/2 inch or
so of oil until just golden. Then put in a fresh small corn tortilla
with a pinch of shredded cabbage, a dollop of mayonnaise and a squeeze
of fresh lime juice. Red salsa on the side if you want it. Like other

Tonight's dinner for us will be yummy leftover BBQ (pork butt and
brisket), potato salad, and coleslaw from the Labor Day feast we had
yesterday. Some friends brought over some truly decadent chocolate cake
for dessert and left us a few pieces, so that will be dessert.

I am so jealous! I've been trying to get my hubby to Q for weeks. I've
been whispering "pork butt, pork butt, pork butt" into his ear at night, but

Yep, it's perfect canning weather here today. I'm doing another batch
of roasted tomato sauce and beef stock. I'm starting a batch of salsa
to be canned tomorrow. I just love it when the humidity breaks!

Kili, I'm a little confused. Is your DH total low carb or some other
type of diet? If low carb, the rice is a huge no no. In terms of
budget the rice is a big plus! I can get a 10 lb bag of long grain rice
for $4.99. That goes a long way. So if your DH is willing to modify
just a little I'll bet we could really give you a bunch of tips. I have
tons of rice recipes. I'm not sure about the tortillas with respect to
carbs as I think they are made with corn which is also high in carbs. I
recall there are work arounds so you could have tortillas and your DH
could perhaps use a cabbage leaf or similar for the wrap. I think one
company at least is making low carb tortillas but they likely cost more
than the standard ones.
