  1. This is a warning on a specific poster, something I rarely do; AFAIK this is my first. Those of you
who don't read alt.food.diabetes will not be aware of it.

A couple of weeks ago we started seeing posts on all three diabetes ngs from [email hidden]
. In reading and responding some of the posts seemed a little extreme, but not unusually so for us.

Then the name started appearing on a.f.d, posting some very high carb recipes. The following is an
edited selection of responses from bistoury on the "Pineappple upside down Cake" thread:

"Well here in our office we will all eat it. I am very satisfied with just a bite but I really am
not concerned with bg spikes or not. My philosophy is if it tastes good have at it. Some of the guys
here feel the same. Life is to short not to eat what you want."

OK, he's T1 and can balance it. Then: "Many of you play at dieting and diabetic control and when
heads are turned you stuff your little faces and then only your HbgA1c knows the truth. Life is too
short to make of career of being a little sick diabetic whose life is centered on one or two extra
    carbs or cals."

Well, he could be right, then: "As Matt stated previously these recipes come from a find book
sponsored by The American Diabetic Association and is listed in their catalog. Would you go against
the official doctrine of the official representatives of the medical community that treats diabetics
and do your own by trial and error? I would find that very dangerous. If you are a diabetic why not
follow the official line of the official groups of doctors and researchers that are your mentors.
But I see you are a type 2 and that equates in not a real diabetic just one who won't lose weight
    and exercise. Pauli"

Interesting view of all T2s. Hang on who's Matt? Where did Pauli appear from? then: "You may have
directed your missive to Matt not me. My basic language is French so my interprets is different from
yours. I will give to Matt when he returns. Pauli"

and: There are not two of us there are 27 of us that use this ID for sales and service. Hopefully
this answers your questions. Pauli #18"

We seem to have a many-headed poster here: "Not at all. Quite a common experience when you have an
office that is open 24 hours per day and someone has always to be at one computer for referrals or
orders. There are many more computers but they are dedicated to basic promotion. Have you never seen
a large computer sales organization in action? Pauli"

So it appears when you reply to "bistoury" you may be responding to Matt, or Pauli or any of the
other 25 people in the office, who may or may not be diabetic or trying to sell you something.
Coincidentally, nearly every link that's been provided went off to Amazon.

I will ignore the twit, or twits in future. You make your own judgment.

Cheers Alan, T2, Oz. dx May 2002 , A1C 5.8, no meds, diet and not enough exercise. I have no medical
qualifications beyond my own experience. Choose your advisers carefully, because experience can be
    an expensive teacher.

That's a myth that needs dispelling as soon as poss. A T1 CAN'T balance a meal if it's high carb

He's right in that life IS too short to be a professional diabetic, but that's not he same as

No probs Al, but it's something that's got out of hand just lately. We have to do the same as ANY
diabetic, and that's very carefully watch what we eat, and inject accordingly, because on top of the
ability to have stupidly high BG's, we have an amazing ability to crash to stupidly low BG's if we
abuse the needle, so that means we don't have the full menu at our disposal.

Getting giddy with the needle is a sure fire way to a very unhappy existence.

I wish it WERE the case that I could eat like I used to be able to, but unfortunately, it's not, and
I'll bet that lots of T1's feel exactly the same.

In a BIG way. I notice he never answered my question about the wonderful "Inulin" pills he takes.
Seems like a rather odd name to choose for a pill too, like they're trying to make people think
    they're INSULIN pills.

'Course, tht's probably me being a cynical swine :-)

It just comes natural to youse cause y'all invented English. It's the if/then thing when IT WAS
becomes IT WERE and the CAN becomes COULD, with a THAT or sumpthin thrown in..

What you said formally said was:
    - If it were the case, then I could eat like i used to.

I guess Latin helped me sort it out im me mind on the causal thingy/plural verb flip.

Hey the days are getting a tad longer, it'll be time to dust off those birds soon.

I didn't mean to correct anything Beav said. He was spot on-how's that for Brit talk?

I just meant to meander about the "causal subjunctive" and how it's proper use comes more naturally
to the folks that invented the language- than to us american anglais users.

I'm still struck by Beav's use of the 'caus sub' and the powerful point he made.

Al, it's the same for every damned one of us, and ANY diabetic who thinks he knows it all, or can't
learn something everyday is a fool.

I THOUGHT I knew it all 10 or more years ago coz I was in EXCELLENT control, even though it was
piggin hard work. Now it's got a litle easier, mainly because of three things. I have TWO excellent
insulins, a good deal more knowledge and a LOT more discipline, which only came from forming good
habits over the last 10 years.

Now I KNOW what I can't eat and only THINK I know what I can eat:-)
