I don't often bother to carry a camera and even when I do I usually fail
to use it.

A GPS I do carry and may even use the occasional goto.

Well on my 2-3 hour afternoon strolls, I do without map,compass, or gps,
but with a switched on mobile, but I know every inch of the various routes
I use. Camera only sometimes.

I am lucky enough to have a stroll which would class as a walk if it were
10 miles away and I did not do it regularly. A short, *simple* part is
the same route as the Calderdale way, I regularly see others using a map
while doing the Calderdale Way. When doing other parts of the Calderdale
Way, which I do not know well, I have use an Explorer and carried gps,
camera and mobile.

I took camera, binoculars, GPS and walking poles on Sunday, but I was
with my bird and one of her friends, on their first trip to Malham, so I
wanted to take some nude shots of them on and below the cove, to
distract the 'climbers'.

It was too cold, so I took some in their walking gear.
The friend is cute, 12 years younger, and much more nimble down the dry
valley and over the limestone pavement, which set me thinking.....

She also gave me a fiver towards the petrol.....

I walked the North Downs way way back in 1996 without camera, GPS or
poles. I repeated some sections this summer but this time the extra
gear was taken.

Yes, without GPS sometimes ........ but never without the camera. Never
sure nowadays whether I go for a walk, or go out to take photos from a

Let me just get this straight - your bird has mates who may let you take
nude pictures of them, *and* they pay for the petrol ?! I'm guessing you
are either a [censored] star or a lonely multi-millionaire. (Or they are right
mooses, but in these PC times, I shouldn't say that.)

I would be a failure on both counts. I was merely injecting some
prurient interest into a thread which would otherwise be rather dull,

since 5 year old daughter got into geocaching I struggle to get her to
walk to the car without the gps. Oh, and I got the shop to throw in
free a cheap digital camera [1] when I bought my 300D. She now has that
with similar effect.

[1] digital for a child may seem excessive, but it saves a fortune on
printing costs. Interestingly she seems to have a very natural eye for
timing and composition, especially candid portraits and landscapes,
which makes me wonder if she has a gift for it or if at that age we all
have it and it is bred out of us by 'the day job'.

We go walking anyway, and she started by joining us on a local stroll.
I note the smiley, but she is good company, and has been a friend of
M****, my lady friend for some 20 years. They met when she used to run
an exercise class at the gym M**** attended.
