Two day ago I received a Microsoft Wireless Desktop with Optical mouse and keyboard. It looks new, but I got it from Ebay. The right mouse key does not work, and several of the keys on the keyboard don't seem to do what they are supposed to do. The BIGGEST bother is the space bar. When typing, you have to hit it hard and in the middle or it does not work and the words run together.
Anyone else use one and if so, your thoughts? I wonder if Logitech would be better than Microsoft?

Sounds like they are well used. Either of a fresher variety should do the job for you. Neither mouse nor keyboard is that expensive. How much did you save getting it off eBay?

We have a couple Logitechs in the office, and they work fine. You got ripped off.

We have a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse for the PC. Absolutely no problems on this end. DH's theory and it is only his theory that when using Windows stick with compatible components with MS being the first choice. I use a MS wireless mouse for the Mac without a problem either.

Mine was bought new, and I don't have any problems at all. If you buy secondhand stuff wthout the chance to inspect it first there's always the chance of it being dodgy, and you have no comeback.

Why would any normal brained individual want to give some ebay putz a piece of the action... you can get reconditioned cameras directly from Olympus[period], with a *warranty*.
Dunno about ebay... don't use it, but our local version has gotten us a few bargains. However, if you buy anything on these sites its "voetstoets" or in American - "as is". Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. Moral of the story - if the stuff you bought on ebay don't work - tough luck.

Make sure the receiver is not too close to keyboard and mouse. (!) Or too far away (usually between 18" and 6'😉. Also make sure the batteries are fresh. If neither helps, get somebody with a bit of know how to clean the keyboard and mouse switches for you.

That is a gross generalisation. It's good for what it's good for. When our Beta recorder died (and nobody could repair it) just as Derrick was starting to transfer the tapes to DVD, he used Ebay to track down another one, from somebody in Tasmania who was clearly a dealer and consequently had a reputation to protect. I think he paid just about as much as he did for the original one new! But it works OK.

Brick and mortar computer stores are notoriously overpriced. Online retailers like Monarch Computers, ZZF, or Newegg have much better deals and are safer than Ebay. Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse combos start at $46 shipped at Newegg.

I would NEVER consider a used keyboard, simply on the basis of "hygienic" issues. Keyboards can be filthy, FILTHY things. Buying one used you've no idea *where* the previous user's hands have been...I don't EVEN wanna THINK about it - YUK!
For cripes sakes *my* keyboard gives me the heebie - jeebies sometimes and I am *most* attentive to matters of general cleanliness...

Because when I got mine, my bid was lower than the direct price, you silly child. You have to know WHEN to place the last bid. Late evening on a holiday works nicely. Halloween, for instance, when other people are busy.
1. I have had good and bad luck with e-bay electronics. Much of the stuff sold there is little better than garage sale leftovers, but I have met sellers who essentially host multiple garage sales and just try to sell as much as possible. I bought some used cables on E-bay for my cell phone and discovered the cables were mismarked and the install cd was scratched. When I complained, the seller apologized and sent me new equipment - no questions asked. In short, some sellers just move the stuff without looking at it closely, but still are concerned about their reputation.
2. Logitech vs. Microsoft? The reviews have been the same for years - even before wireless equipment. Logitech tends to be more sturdy and durable; Microsoft more stylish. For both, the newest toys are overpriced - last year's models do almost the same thing for much more reasonable prices. The prices on both don't tend to be that much different.
