In this hot weather, the windows are kept open. In this hot weather, a certain bird... a robin has taken it upon itself not just to fly into the utility & swipe dry catfood from the cats' bowls... it flies in the house to make itself at home. I kid you not. I was vegging out on the sofa over lunchtime, catching up on the news via the idiotbox in the corner of the room when said robin flew in and landed on the sofa a few inches from my head. In the kitchen, it perches itself a-top a kitchen cabinet and if there isn't food in the cat dish, it chirrups a noise at me. Dish is filled and robin hops down to help itself... Robin suns itself on the windowsill in the living room.

So far, I have three unobservent felines.
The patio door next to my bird feeder is wide open. The cat sleeps just inside it watching the birdies, too lazy to do anything about them :-)

Mine generally aren't that unobservent. Yesterday Francis hit his head on the window in his rush to get to the jay that was on the sill on the outside of the window...

That's what you think. The moggies, on the other hand, believe their plan is on track; first you fatten up the robin...

Cheers, helen s
My cat is scared by most things and I've seen it run away from small birds on several occasions although she will torment insects up to the size of a small beetle. She loves sitting indoors and making threatening noises at birds when she knows they can't get her.
She spent most of yesterday afternoon in the garden (we were out there too so she knew she was safe) trying to catch butterflies. As they were feeding at the top of a very thin and springy bush we derived great fun from watching her spring vertically into the air in an attempt to catch one. A miserable failure but she looked like she was enjoying herself.

My ex-cat (Now happily chasing things in the happy hunting grounds) used to do much better. She once went from sat down in the middle of the garden, to airborne in time to catch the starling (IIRC) that was swooping down over head. Nuff respec' that cat!
