I saw the story, too. Featured a friend of ours - John Williams from
WGN in Chicago. Fun to see him - what a surprise. AFA the game -- I
don't play it much. I've got a Sudoku widget on my iBook dashboard.

I do - I love it...I am addicted. I bought a book about mastering
Sudoko (apparently written by the UK's version of Vanna White according
to the woman at the Barnes and Noble check out) If you want to try it
out - http://www.puzz.com/dailysudokupuzzle.html There is a new puzzle
every day - you can do it online or print it out.

Funny isn't it how that game has suddenly taken off after being around for
30+ years. I print off a new puzzle each morning and usually get it done
before I go to work. I've enjoyed them for years but don't consider myself
addicted.

I did a few of them when they started to run them daily in the L.A.
Times, but frankly I find them boring. There's really only one kind of
thinking involved in them, unlike a crossword puzzle, which may invoke
puns, quotations, foreign languages, or other trickery besides the
definitions. -aem

I'm totally addicted, I've got the papacom program, and generate about 16
puzzles a day. I even do them while cooking, and in bed last thing at night!
The only place I don't do them is at work where I have to give my full
concentration.
A colleague is just as bad, she has a projection alarm clock that shows the
time on the ceiling, she woke up at 02:25 and her first words were, "that
lines not right!"
The papacom has a free 30 day download which has a good 'how to play
sudoku' section.

Yes, I play Sudoku (note the spelling). My newspaper has a daily
puzzle ranging from easy to diabolical. Type sudoku into google and
follow the leads. I did a search to get hints on how to solve it.

I wouldn't say I'm addicted, but I often give it a go. I get most of
them solved.

I transfer the numbers to a grid I made in Microsoft Excel so the
squares are bigger and I can enter the possiblities into each square.

Sudoku is a major craze here in the UK. Just about all the
papers have it. I admit to being totally hooked, but it
wastes so much time.

they are produced by real people rather than computers, this
gives a better 'feel' to the game. It also means that some
of the hard ones can be made truly devilish, you can easily
lose sleep over them.

Those aren't new. "Games" magazine has been printing them for years.
This is the first time I've ever heard them called "Sudoku".

I've been a continuous subscriber since December, 1993. (I still have
all of them.) Before that I only read it sporadically. When I first
subscribed to it they were only publishing 6 issues a year. The
magazine actually started back in 1977 as a monthly magazine but almost
folded somewhere around the late 80's or early 90's. When the magazine
got back on its feet they only published a few issues a year.
Gradually they started adding more issues per year. Now it's up to 10
issues a year. That's almost too much for me. I barely have time to
finish one before the next one comes along. My favorite puzzles are
the "Paint by Numbers". The "Sudoku" puzzles aren't in every issue but
you count on them being in there at least a couple times a year.

They've been in the Dell puzzle magazines since the mid 70s. That's why I
was so surprised to read about this "New puzzle" that had taken the world by

photocopy all the ones in my puzzle book and putting them away for a rainy
day.

next door to the blue house. The Smith's have a green car but their
neighbors to the left have no car. Random facts and you finally figure
out the whole neighborhood/whatever.

I like those too, although it's been a while since I've seen one. I
also like the crossnumber puzzles in which clue 1 across will say, "The
square root of 50 down." Then 50 down will say, "Half of 32 down."
Then 32 down will say, "12 across tripled." etc. Each clue ends up
leading to another clue and you have to figure out where to start.
