As far as I can make out, Bratton is also the cut and paste troll. He's
basically a sad git someqhere in California who's most likely on some form
of mental disability pension and who's discovered that this internet thingy

Stream of consciousness unicycle boy is a fairly new thing. He's been around
for a little while but he used to post once a week rather once or twice a

disappeared. Our overall troll level in terms of individual trolls is pretty
low. There was a spate for a while when some of the rowdier elements in some
motorist groups got bored and decided to come and flame us, but other than
that, it's mostly Roger.

There's the marty/bratton thing, which is laughable, the bratton
(assuming
that's who it really is posting the same thing dozens of times) thing
smacks of
some obsessed loon with a -lot- of spare time on its hands. Seen that
sort
of thing before, and usually the loon gets bored after a while or gets
distracted
by some other issue and goes away. A "While" can be quite a while in
some cases ... as this seems to be. But, it's trivially easy to
recognise as
dribble and thus, easy to ignore. It's not annoying, it's just
a bit of background noise. It's so absurd that even someone who
stumbled onto it with no background at all would recognise it
as some nut raving on.

Then there's this stream-of-conciousness 'unicyclist' who scatter-posts
incoherant ravings. Benign enough, and sometimes amusing. Then
there's the mystery
cut & paster. What digs? I don't know the history of a.b well enough
to
have seen what tripped these loons (if indeed they're multiple loons
or just invocations of the same loon?) off? I can't be bothered going
through
the headers and tracking them down, not worth the effort.

They aint doing that this month. The price of petrol must really be

BTW Kathy had an exam on friday. It was the last day of her holidays and
her boss wanted her certifications current (dont start me on this)
Anyway we took stealth motorcycle. Its been what a month and a half
since it was started and the last time I filled it it cost $1.15 litre.
So i fired it up It ran for a minute and went onto 2 cyclinders. I put
it on prime and it went back onto 4. I found a can of something that
used to be petrol and put just under a litre into it. It went back onto
2 cyclinders (but not any consistent 2) and we rode it to the servo. I
can now confirm than it now costs 23 bucks to fill orange kat up at 1.25
litre . Hopefully this lasts a few months 🙂

Its the same mentality we had to put up with on 27 mhz CB Radio and

I think that sometimes its ppl who dont agree with an opinion and are
not articulate enough to put 3 words together to say they disagree.

stuff and open a new email message, paste the offensive or abusive
message in the body. Look through the message for something like
"X-Complaints-To: [email hidden]" and thats who you sent the
email off to with your complaint about the poor moron who posted it.
Hotmail, google and yahoo do follow up all complaints. There are
"anonomysers" used by some ppl but they dont argue if asked to hand
over a pests info.
ISP's will normally suspend the account and the silly bugger forefits
the balance of their fee and has to find a new server.
There is lots of "who from" info attached to messages by the host
prog and the ISP. Ya cant stop it and if you own the server or are
on broadband its even easier to trace.

Of course, I wasn't asking how to deal with trolls (I'm no
newbie...I used to administer NNTP servers before most of you
had heard of the innanet), I was asking about the (seemingly) high
incidence
of them here and if there's some history or provocation (*something*
has to trigger the sort of loony behaviour that goes on!) that
happened before I was paying attention to a.b.

This was exactly the same thought I had. DRS leaves and all these
loonys appear. Co-incidence?

Good to see that someone else has some computing experience too. Mine goes back to 1200 baud comms accross the country, punch cards, washing machine 67mb drives and long forgotten fortran. First used "Internet" predecessor at RMC in 1982 with accoustic coupled modem. Please dont send me back there 😄

Problem with this sort of conversation is that you cant see the other persons body language or hear the voice inflection. Was in no way attempting to teach egg sucking but I bet that at least one newbie out there has read how ppl here deal with trolls.

Heh, did you ever see the GUI punchcard simulator? this one
always makes me laugh! :

Back on FORTRAN, on the very first workstation I encountered, I
suggested a
useful set of tools to make the old FORTRAN folk feel at home. A
window that
emulated an 80 column card, and a cursor that emulated a manual hole
punch
(left mouse button). Version 1 had the right button doing an "un-punch
hole"
but that seemed too friendly and unrealistic. Version 2 had right mouse
tearing the card in half and dumping it in the trash (and no, I hadn't

stack of these on screen, another little icon would expand to be a card
