  1. I send this in a real quandry. TV Guide now sucks swamp water.I know
you maybe subscribe to TV Guide, so, want to tell you my TV Guide saga

.. I originally signed up for $13.00 a year (with a handy little
suitcase thing as a gift). When the year ran out, I didn't resubscribe,
until they sent me the same deal, a little suitcase thingy, + a year of
tv guide for $13.00. Who knew what was coming down the pike, so, I
signed up for 2 years at $25.00. I figured for 25¢ an issue, how could
I go wrong, even if I needed special glasses which magnified the print
(already had a pair) to read the small print that the digital issue of
TV Guide became. But, at least they had all the stations, and, stuff
and fluff at the front of the magazine. Who cared. I wanted to know
    what was on TV

Now, I do have digital TV, and, yes, there is an on-screen tv schedule.
So, didn't really need TV Guide, but, for 25¢ a week, what's not to
    like

Well, I got the new makeover issue of TV Guide. After about 30 minutes,
I had read the whole thing, called up TV Guide and cancelled
subscription. That piece of junk is not even worth 25¢ a week. It has
eliminated many stations that I watch (it lists 1 Encore station--yet,
there are 7 stations on the Encore channels), and, unless you're
watching from 8-11 p.m., you're not going to be able to tell what is
on, on many favorite channels, because they simply don't list them
(like HBO is 7 channels, they list 3 of them)(Miramax has 7 channels,
they list 1)(Starz has 7 channels, they list 1)(Showtime has 7
channels, but they list 2). The info just isn't there

It's pretty much short shrift, in the way of what's actually on, for
anything, but, 'prime time' hours, and pretty much only for network tv,
which I haven't watched in ages. I am bereft, and, disgusted, that such
a really needed thing as a good TV Guide, which it was, has become much
like a small publication we used to get it grade school. It was called
the "Weekly Reader". Big pictures, big font print, shiny pages, no
decent context, but, dumbing it down for the masses. What's really
pathetic is that on page 110, it actually lists 133 people who are
major players at TV Guide. This does not mention all the 'little
people' that work in subsidiary jobs, but, I find it hard to believe
that 133 people decided that this was a good way to go for TV Guide.
What a bunch of 'Losers'. TV Guide critic and mad as hell that they
    screwed this up so badly!!

I quit buying the treeware version when it changed ownership, years
ago. Anyone who rates Seinfeld as the greatest comedy show in the
history of television is a buncha idiots! You can get the online
    version at:

    http://online.tvguide.com

But, I find I use my onscreen digital cable guide more and more, these
days. The one thing the online tv guide has going for it is its
excellent movie review section (formerly, Cinebooks):

    http://tvguide.com/movies/

Use the little "movie reviews" on the far right hand side. It doesn't
have as much technical info as http://www.imdb.com/, but the reviews
    are a lot more interesting.

Same here. Since I signed up for digital cable TV a few years ago, I
have no use for TV Guide or the entertainment section in my local Sunday
newspapers. I am not a fan of movie reviews either. Between my digital
TV schedule, my DVR, and my Yahoo portal account, I have all the TV
    information I could possibly need.

I have to wonder how solid TV Guide's future is. Even my 70ish parents,
who do not have Internet access or cable TV told me not to renew the TV
Guide gift subscription I bought them last year. My parents told me TV
Guide does not tell them anything they can't find out simply by watching
TV or looking in the daily newspaper.

HEH... I guess it takes a genius to memorize the TV Guide these days.
Do you remember doing that as a kid? I didn't, but my sister did. I
could ask here any time any day and she could tell me what was on.

Which one is/was your favorite comedy show?

    Married with Children, of course!

    ----

Al: Peg, when you married me, was it premeditated, or was it a drive
    by wedding?

    ----

kid: You have a very lovely daughter. You must be very proud of her.
Al: I'd sell her for scrap.

    ----

fat lady: How dare you say that to my face.
Al: Well, I'd say it to your butt, but my car only has half a tank of
    gas.

    ----

Peg: Hi Al ...did you miss me?
Al: With every bullet, so far.

    ----

Mrs. Parker: BTW Kelly, stay away from my new boyfriend. He's 18 and
    still peaking.
Kelly: He'd hafta peek. He couldn't look at it dead on!

    ----

Buck the dog in animal Heaven: Where am I?
Ben Stein as chicken: You're where animals go when they die.
Buck: You mean I'm in Oprah's refrigerator?

    ----

The new version is awful, but at least it's weekly...the satellite
direct issue (I have DTV) is only monthly, so it's never going to catch
    programming changes.

I don't recall that episode, but I think it was during one of
    Oprah's fat periods...

Yeah, back before Oprah got a handle on her weight problem. It was
the episode, Requiem For A Dead Briard, where Buck dies and is trying
to get into Heaven. He is finally sent back as Lucky, the cocker
    spaniel.
