I use my Microplane for nutmeg and I'm very happy with it. However, I
don't
use it for cheeses because I think it grates too finely. Pretty much the
only time I like that snowflake-fine grate for cheese is when I grate
Parmesan over hot popcorn.

I pop my popcorn in just a very small amount of oil, and I don't salt it.
And it's not like I'm grating a pound of cheese onto it.

add a little oil/butter. I'll just add less oil/butter and some parmesan.
