  1. Hi there.

This is a test to see if it appears at my end.

I have made a number of replies to posts in this group today. Thus far
none of them have shown up. At first I was getting your message has
not been sent and later I tried again and got your post was
successsful but they have not shown up at my end yet.

Is there a problem with Google today? BTW I use Google to read the
    posts.

    Cheers from Peter

    Dear Peter,

    Yes, your posts show up.

But no, they don't show up (yet) in Google Groups, which is suffering
    from impressive delays.

Your post showed up at about a quarter to six in the evening for me,
while Google's latest post was stuck back about seven in the morning.

    Cheers,

    Carl Fogel

FWIW, ISTR seeing quite a few of your posts today -- not sure when you sent
    them, of course.

Anyway, pretty sure this one made it ;-)

Not the only instance. 'Weird' has become the new 'normal'.
Our ISP, core.com, says we haven't yet received all incoming email from
as far back as 12 April and that other ISPs share this problem right
    now. Frustrating.

I have to say, I've noticed a more liberal use of the phrase lately. We
have to be sure not to dilute its meaning through improper usage. One must
choose just the right moment to spring it on an unsuspecting audience,
    enhancing its comic effect.

Ah, Grasshopper, the /stretch/ to make it apply is part of the----- aww,
    screw it.

You RBT and RBM regulars are certainly bike experts. I think I might have a
bit to offer, regarding computer network services like NNTP news servers,
    cf. email servers.

There is no connection between email servers and NNTP news servers. They use
different protocols. If your news server is acting up, it has nothing to do
    with your email service.

Google Groups (GG) is a *complete* archive of Usenet. It is different from
ordinary news servers, in that ordinary news servers have a retention
period, which varies depending on that particular news server policy. Old
posts get deleted at some point. With GG, there is no deletion. Everything
is saved. It is hard for non-IT guys to imagine, how much storage and
bandwidth this takes. The capital expense is huge, but we all know that
Google Corp http://www.google.com/corporate/index.html can afford it. They
are the new Microsoft, in terms of pocket depth. Nevertheless, we are
talking about hundreds of state-of-the-art servers, and a huge fiber
    bandwidth pipe.

Usenet cannot possibly go down / offline /whatever, since it is a worldwide
distributed network of news servers, all using the NNTP TCP/IP protocol.

The GG archive is having a bit of trouble in the last day or two, but most
Usenet regulars use a real news server, anyway. GG is a long term archive.
Not really intended for real time regular Usenet contributers - IT J.

    Thank you Carl.

I am now able to see the posts I made to the group. This is at 9:40 PM
25th of April so I assume the problem was fixed.

    Dear Andrew,

This interruption in service first became a problem for bicycle
newsgroups in 1882, according to "Wheel News" in "Outing Magazine":

"A formal complaint has been entered at the Post Office Department, by
    E. C. Hodges & Co., against the mailing of the 'Wheel' as second class
matter. Pending the settlement of the question, the 'Wheel' has been
    detained at the post-office."

  10. groups froze here at 8:30AM/24: dates continue reading 24 tho it seems
    to be 25?
    using Ultimate/Defender/McAffe, me/computer/software had left a virus
door open on 21/4 after an epic battles trying to access MLB NYY/
Boston on online TV then Sirius online!!
followed google/dell/explorer/McAffe advice cleaning out the trash and
starting over with a new password let the Bike Fit post in then 2-3
hours later I posted the sewing DIY. The DIY appeared after shutting
the laptop off and waiting another hour.

You can purchase news service for short money if it's important to you
and get much better service than any ISP provides.
