What an odd day. I had class this morning. Stopped and bought some peppered deli turkey on the way home. Seeded the back lawn and lost a contact lens in the bag of starter fertilizer. Ho... hum. Took Missy and Shelly to the park for a run. Took a nap and then ate a sandwich of peppered turkey, farmer's cheese, lettuce, tomato and these fantastic deli pickle slices on sourdough slathered with mayo. While eating, I glanced into the dining room and noticed the dining room chandelier was really dirty. I looked for the bottle of chandelier cleaner I buy at the lamp shop. I'm out dammit. I improvise and make a solution of windshield wiper stuff and water. I sprayed it on a few of the prisms and it worked better than the expensive cleaner I buy. No streaks either.

Geeze, you have a crystal prism chandelier... another Liberace. Ordinary Windex works fine too but that's the lazy method. You'll get a much better job if you remove all the prisms and wash them by hand with dish liquid.

That's pushing it. As it is I hand wash the Wedgewood and Waterford. Everything else gets stuffed into the dishwasher.

Now, that's an idea I haven't entertained for chandelier crystals. I'm tired of my brass chandelier, so I'm thinking about possibilities for replacement. Crystal has always put me off because of the upkeep factor.... but the dishwasher method sounds easy enough.

People hang an umbrella from it, upside down and open, to catch the drips. Funny. I remember cleaning the ex-gmil's chandelier, that was a pain.

Yup, that's how my mother did it with our crystal chandeliers when growing up. A touch of ammonia in the water too, if I recall? The prisms lift off easily enough and allow for a good wipe down of the frame while the crystal dries laid out on a towel. Goomba
