    Bike was stollen from my yard in the last two days, in the Main and
    Danforth area of Toronto. I posted here as well as Ont.bicycle because
    I know a number of shop people in the area read the group...

    There is a lot of sentimental value attached to this one, I actually
    raced it all those years ago. For the last couple of years it was
    doing duty as my wife's beater bike. Anyway I would like it back. At
    least as importantly I want someone (preferably me) to call the guy
    who took it "a Useless Piece of [censored] Thief". That's worth $100 to me..

    This one should be an easy spot...

    The bike itself is a 19" 1988 Miyata Ridge Runner Team (rather
    modified)

    It was repainted a dark green sort of Faux Granite/Marble

    The frame itself is obviously Ridged,
    -lugged construction
    -Down tube cable routing
    -very slack head tube angle
    -long fork rake
    -long chainstays
    -"Miyata" cast into the seat stay caps
    -Chainstay mounted XT-Ubrake
    -pump nipple brazed on the back of the seat tube
    (I told you the chain stays were long)

    Components ...
    Front wheel is an araya RM-20 (black but now worn out) XT Hub, 36
    cross 3
    Rear Wheel is silver single wall Araya 20 with an LX 7-speed hub, 36
    cross 3
    (one pair of non drive side spokes are tied with steel wire, there was
    a reason but it doesn't matter here)
    Tioga City-Slicker Tires 1.25"
    HG70 Cassette
    DX rear Derailure
    XT Bottom Pull Front Derailure
    500CX Hybrid Cranks
    XT rear Ubrake
    XT front Cantis
    XT headset and BB
    XT Servo-wave Brake shift levers (original version up and down shift
    on the thumb side)
    Platform pedals

    Stem is Cheap and very short (my wife is 4" shorter than me)
    Bars are new Easton Bars ( with a rise .. what are they called?)
    Seat post is a Sakai TCO
    Seat is an anatomical women's seat..

    I'll keep an eye out. You might get lucky..when I worked at a shop out
    here, a customer had his bike stolen. He's walking down Jane St. one night
    and sees the guy riding his bike, K.O.'s him and takes his bike back! Sweet
    justice!! Insurance had already paid out on his stolen bike and he had his
    old one back! OK, a little crooked, but it was good laugh! Another guy
    stole a bike from our shop, broke the front window. Alarm goes off, buddy
    is riding away, pants get caught in the chain and he stops to remove them.
    He's so drunk he doesn't notice the cop car slide up behind him! He told
    the cops he was tired of walking...

    I had a Soma (the late Japanese '70's version) with Arabesque Shimano 600
    components and a leather seat, stolen. I was working in a bike shop then and
    knew many riders and wrenches. Two years later the bike ends up at my
    friend's shop. He arranges to go for a ride with the owner, and had the
    police meet them at the prearranged spot. Once I was able to positively
    identify the bike the police returned it to me.

    I hope your story has an happy ending.

    Oh that's not good. I actually did buy a bike there once. It was a POS and
    I had to replace most of the parts on it inside a year, but the owner
    assured me he was communicating the serial numbers of all his bikes to the
    cops, to make sure they weren't reported stolen.

    My only consolation is that if it was indeed stolen, I can be certain the
    original owner wouldn't have been able to ride another 60k on it (the bike
    is in my garage now with new seatpost, saddle, wheels, brakes levers pads
    and cables, handlebars + grips, freewheel, chain, tires, BB, kickstand and
    lights. That bike was a waste of money but a learning experience to be
    sure).
