  1. WTF is happening. I've been getting 20 to 50 messages an hour with the Automat.AHB worm. The web is
slow. Norton has kicked each and every one into touch. And I have seen nothing suggesting a 'new'
virus or attack to the web on the news.

Am I alone ore is everyone suffering the same [censored]??

If they are not they soon will be. Its a new worm W32.Swen.A@mm that Norton picks up as
Automat.AHB.worm unless you have yesterday's virus update from them.

  6. Me too. Mainly MS User, Microsoft User, Client, Customer etc. My router h/w firewall isn't stopping
them, so a mail rule now deletes the lot from the server (I hope).

Unfortunately not. I just deleted a load that were intercepted bt the BT service. I've just
installed the BT/Yahoo package to see if it helps.

So with all the many virus panics that have happened in the past month why aren't the BBC etc
raising a panic over this one?

The W32/Gibe-F worm is currently hitting the nesgroups too.

A standard consequence of too many people using operating systems which are insecure by design.

It's eating my bandwidth too. I can't speak for everyone. However, spamassassin copes with
    most of it.

Thanks for bringing that up. I am getting them also. So it is a matter of deleting the MS updates.

That's because someone on one of the newsgroups has stored your e-mail address in their address book
and then caught the worm. It has also been posting itself to newsgroups

Don't rely on it. I had one come in masquerading as a rejected mail message from rocketmail.net.
    Fortunately Norton squashed it.

    We are not alone! ;-)

Yes I am getting tons of the rubbish. Still, not having a Microsoft system all the "security
updates" are obviously fake and a general policy of delete if in doubt seems to be doing OK for me.

I believe addresses are being grabbed from newsgroups and lists and of course once somebody using
common email software gets it then off it goes again. Ho hum. So tedious.

And me. [email hidden] is now going to /dev/null. Usually when I "expire" an email address,
e.g. news001@ it goes to a folder called zzzspam. Generally I read the subjects before I delete them
so just occasionally I pick up a genuine email referencing an old post that was seen on Google. (Of
course, I may be missing some messages but ...)

Tonight I'm getting ten or fifteen messages supposed to be MS updates that contain viruses every
    time I open my mailbox.

I've had 500 or so of them in teh last 14 hours, along with slightly fewer (400?) messages that
claim to be a delivery failure message but actually seem to have an audio attachment.

If you want someone to blame, blame it on verisign's application of wildcards to the DNS
system. It may not be that, but that was a bad thing anyway, so some more negative vibes at
    them won't go amiss.

Actually, to those that understand what verisign have been doing, any email that's from an address
that gets caught by their wildcard and resolves to their ip address, I've been sending to one of
their 'sales' email addresses - after all, if teh from address resolves to an IP they apparently
claim, it was probably from them, so it's only polite to send it back if you're not interested...
Actually, I've only done it with a few, but I reckon if enough people do it a few times a day,
eventually we might get a non-broken DNS back, and that will help with some of teh spam.

    regards, Ian SMith
