Nope. No can do. Bullets from a rifled barrel actually don't fare
much better if there's a lot of deformation.

In real practice, this type of forensic evidence is rarely used,
anyway.

Yes, folks, not satisfied with proposing, pursuing, and finally
having to admit defeat over the idea of individually serial-numbering
every bullet and piece of brass, they now want to classify as
"unsafe" any firearm that does not micro-stamp each piece of brass
with the firearm's make, model and serial number. (AB 352 for any
Kalifornians out there.)

I'm going to guess the alleged intent is that police will be able to
identify what gun was used in the commission of a crime by the brass
left behind. Of course: The criminals that leave that kind of
evidence behind aren't going to care and, for anybody that did care,
working around leaving serial-numbered brass behind would be
trivial.
