  1. How many of you have seen the new Shoebox greeting card commercial with a
handful of woman (I hesitate to use the term "ladies"😉 sitting around
    exhibiting their unique "laughs"?

I'd like to slit their throats! :-) I don't think I've ever heard anything
    so annoying!

LOL Well, I've seen it but I can't say I've heard all the variety of laughs
they exhibit. But then again, it's been years since I've been to a "hen
party" (aka bridal shower) where one would be laughing over a card. However,
catch me with something that hits my funny bone and when I get going I do
tend to *snort* at the end. John thinks it's cute; he points it out and
laughs, which then makes him *snort* and then we both just get hysterical.
This is usually halfway through the bottle of wine 🙂

Was watching a re-run of 'That 70's Show' late last night. They're all in
the basement smoking weed and talking about how they come up with brilliant
thoughts but then they can never remember them the next day. So someone
says they should get a tape recorder, then they could play it back and write
it all down! Yeah, man, that's brilliant! I think you had to be there. In
    fact, I think I was, once 😉

Just one person snorting a laugh can be very funny. Repetitive commercials
of half a dozen make odd laughter noises (beyond snorts) is just plain
    irritating! :-)

Heh, that drives me up a wall, too. There's a commercial for Huntington's

It is getting a bit too much airplay to continue to be amusing; however, it
was amusing the first dozen times I saw it. It reminded me of the mother of
my children, who had a distinctive laugh (I imagine she still does, I just
don't hear it anymore), similar to one of the ones in the commercial.

True enough to an extent. There was a gun dealer in Denver, Don's
Guns, who had the *most* obnoxious commercial: "I don't like to make
money. I just love to sell guns. Heh. Heh. Heh." And the "Heh. Heh.
Heh" was just smarmy. Remember the name of his gun shop to this day,
    though, don't I?

OTOH, there's a radio commercial here in southern California that has
as a tag line, "You're killing me, Larry," done in the most obnoxious
tone of voice imaginable - all I can tell you is, it's a mattress
company and if I ever recall *which* mattress company, I will boycott
it for the rest of my life. Same reason I haven't bought Doublemint
    gum in 20 years <g>

Not necessarily. I remember the product alright, and I'll remember never to
buy them. I never much liked them anyway and, in general, I prefer American
    Greetings cards over Hallmark.

That would be Sit 'N Sleep. But I think they quit using those characters: I
listen to KNX when I drive through LA (can't beat traffic reports every six
minutes!), and Sit 'N Sleep was a major advertiser on that station, but I
didn't hear the notorious whiner ONCE on a recent drive-through.

I haven't been subjected to that ad as far as I can recall, but I
guess ShoeBox is a female thing... I like them a lot. They're
slightly goofy and not overly sentimental.

This topic made me look up Shoebox cards... they have a game called
Pick the Punchline. You get a card front and three choices. One is
the correct punchline. I did pretty well, but got so many right in
the beginning that I wasn't sure if there were any wrong answers.

That's what the advertisers are now shooting [sorry 'bout that pun] for,
too. It has to be obnoxious enough to stick over all the other obnoxious
jingles, sound bytes, glitzy bits. An intelligently done ad doesn't
    sell, unfortunately, to the masses.

I'm like you with regard to obnoxiousness factor. It might catch me off
guard once, maybe twice... But by the third time, I'm changing the
channel or popping in a CD. If a station causes me to change the channel
    due to one of their
    gotta-play-the-same-10-second-bit-12-times-every-15-minutes... I write A
Letter explaining why I have found it necessary to no longer listen to
the station playing that noise. I also CC the letter to whatever

it makes me feel good and you can rarely buy happiness for 37¢ anymore.

You are in the vast minority with regards to that, unfortunately. It's
like finding a small restaurant that serves tasty food at great prices
but it eventually closes because places like Olive Garden and Applebee's
    are able to steal customers.
