Maybe it's a little paranoid, but I *never* hand over my keys when I
have my vehicle serviced. The one key they need comes off the ring.

Paranoid nuthin... never hoid of an instance where the service manager
didn't take down your particulars... they know where you live, they
have your phone number (making it simple to confirm your schedual with
a few hang-ups)... and now one of their itinerate grease monkeys has
that info from the work sheet too. All that's needed is the key to
your front door, oh, you just gave it to him, to have copied on his
lunch hour. No paranoia, common sense.

Also a grand idea not to leave valuables in your car when left for
servicing... camera, laptop, tools, fishing gear, golf clubs, weapons,
etc.... very few insurance policies cover theft of valuables from
autos.

I hate to break this to you, but keys haven't been exclusive for
decades.

Manufacturers have been using chip keys for at least the past 2 decades, and
though not perfect, they are about as exclusive as you can get.
