  1. {Off topic, but lots of PS users here]

The new version Photoshop is now out, with a CS suffix. The best review I have found is at:

    tinyurl.comqg99

Not _too_ much in the way of new features, and bloody expensive. (I wonder how long before some ne'er-do-
    well cracks the activation device.)

The Camera raw facility is very good, and can be obtained separately for use with PS7. I also
loved the facility to combine bracketed exposures into one image with astonishing shadow and
    highlight detail.

The activation device has allegedly been hacked on Kaza already how I don't know as the Software
doesn't ship till Dec . This activation lark is causing a few well many postings of angst in varying
forums such as dpreview. The only problem with using a cracked version of the software and being
connected to the Internet and getting an upgrade WILL then cause a stop to proceedings as the
upgrade detects something amiss. Moral either BUY the software OR have cracked software but not
connected to Internet. The price to upgrade is the same as last time £150 The amount of extra
features actually might be more worth while this time round rather than up from 6 to 7 .It has a lot
of extras for Photographers this time round. The raw facility that you mention cost a fair bundle
and all this is embedded in CS now with extensions to cover more cameras and tweaks to the software.

ROTFL! It is probably a huge competition to see who can get it on p2p first.

More than half the cost of the upgrade.

The other thing is to take a close gander when if you frequent Bowlers the Computer fair in
Manchester held every week. Its suprising what you see and can buy at a snip of a price and it does
    sometimes work.

Yes I think I forked out £90 approx. I thought that I would need CS as soon as possible due to hard
disc failure a month back. The software was bought on Internet , no backup. But Adobe had records
proving I had purchased so gave me a new code number.

Regards activation it wont apply to those using Macs only PCs this policy will/maybe change in
fullness of time. The beauty of CS is that 16bit working with the tools is heavily featured this
time round. This is helpful in say level adjustments. If done in 8 bit then saved go back to look
at the Histogram if there are gaps in the trace this doesn't bode well on print out. Try doing the
same thing in 16 bit and the chances are that there will be no breaks so a better printed image.

I can't find any trace of CS on Kazaa. Lots of copies of 7 though.

I'd be wary of downloading it if I *did* find it. At least for a while. Adobe are apparently using
Kazaa Lite to trace IP addresses of folk _uploading_ their software. Of course, you could whip it
out of your share folder as soon as it came in.

You mean; dpreview.comadobephotoshopcs (without the annoying top frame)

I disagree. Quality rather than quantity. The ability to do everything in 16 bit (per channel) mode
is a major improvement. That was a huge limitation when working with layers.

Many of the new tools offer superior methods of doing things which are currently quite fiddly. Like
my favourite - contrast masking - for example. The new shadow/highlight command seems to offer a
vastly simpler and better way of doing that.

Then my use of ironical underlining was wasted on you Paul.

Oh, is that what it was? Evidently yes...
