I haven't watched more than about 6 minutes of Olympic coverage this entire
fortnight (or whatever the hell it is), and I'm one of the biggest couch
potato/TV sports addicts you'd ever want to slap. I just don't care about
it any more, now that almost all the athletes are already pros and/or rich.
(And of course, the U.S. men's basketball team is the best/worst example.
What a bunch of spoiled crybaby losers, eating caviar and sipping champagne
on the QE2 while the true /competitors/ are in the Village. Hate to say it,
but I'm glad they got whipped...THREE TIMES {so far}!)

Hey now, we need to keep the female ice skaters!
I couldn't't believe my eyes when I saw people in their pajamas jumping up
& down on a trampoline! What the hell is that?!?!?!?
The O-limp-icks are now obsolete, superseded by the mighty X Games.

I was glued and then finally burned out after the women's gold medal beach
volley ball game. I must say the whole presentation is much better this
year: way less cat in the tree commentary and just the sports, please.

I know, I know.... I do agree with you about the b-ball team. Hate to see
the good ol US of A go down in basketball, but these guys pretty much
deserve what they got IMO.
As for the synchro swimming -- for the two minutes I had it on all I could
think of was the opening scene of Austin Powers or that bizarre interlude in
Caddyshack. It just didn't compute.
Anyone for competetive flower arranging? Maybe Olympic chess? Then even
the geeks could be "athletes" going for gold!

Well, I must admit, of the 6 minutes I've watched, 5:59 of it was women's
beach volleyball! (And not JUST for the bikinis...honest!)

Yes I can't stand sync'd swimming either, but at least that takes
some athleticism. How about target shooting - WOW! And they
wonder why folks don't watch?

Ya know, they're too much of the jock to look really good. Susie and I
decided that beach volleyball just takes too much abdominal/back muscle
to create nice figures. I like the swimmers though. :-)

Maybe they need to ditch the airguns and switch to flame throwers.
That'd get em noticed.

I'm thinking that you and Susie's definition of "nice figure" doesn't match
everyone's.

Yes, Beijing 2008.
One sport I really dislike in the olympics is the womens gymnastics. I wish
they'd require mature women compete. those little girls fall apart under
the pressure, plus they lack the elegance of the mature women. just my
opinion, obviously.
How about that sore loser of a basketball coach that spain has? Wow. First
the Germans get [censored]-off at Lance and start spitting uncontrollably, now
spain is not happy about timeouts or something and wants to pick a fight
with the Dream** team. What a bunch of sore losers.

Yeah.
Interesting, the beach volley ball gals were a big hit around here...
mainly because they are not stick figures... not too lean but very strong.
as for the bikinis, I was ready to get outraged about them until I read that
they get to choose what to wear. I had assumed the sponsors had
requirements. I don't think it's very comfortable with those bottoms
crawling up your butt during the game.
forget the speedos, how about those low cut swim knickers the boys were
sporting?

Tall, slender women have always been my weakness, so the volleyballers
(indoor AND beach) fit the bill quite nicely. (Funny, the indoor women
players are MUCH more muscular -- and busty -- than the beachies; not sure
why that is.)
It's true, though -- the beach volleyball players are more athletic than
sexy...but that just makes 'em more sexy!

You must have missed Mohini whatshername, the 24 year old American who
barely made the team? There's a real woman for you.

The volleyball players looked straight from arm pits to hips. Like a
tree trunk. Just doesn't do it for me.

Man, I disagree. They were flat-ish, true, but GREAT legs, butts, backs and
shoulders.

The rules have been changed to require them to be at least 16. At 16, Carly
Patterson hardly crumbled under pressure in the all-around.
She started her career at the local gym where my ex's kid was competeing at
the time, and was a phenom/freak of nature from day one. Best of all, she
did it because she loved it.
