  1. I must say, I am enjoying the Olympics this year! It is nice to see
something on T.V. that isn't loaded with violence, sex, poor language and a
host of other [censored] on T.V.

    Anyone else enjoying this?

    Curt

PS: It is too bad the American and British press was so hard on the Greeks
about getting things ready and security. IMHO, they are doing a fine job.
I expected them to, being that they invented the whole thing. Too bad more
people didn't attend due to all that bad press.

  2. DH has been following them closer than I have. Frankly, I've been rooting
for the Iraqi soccer team. They are really good, and I think it would do
wonders for that country's morale to get a gold. I saw a segment on the
national news a while back that reported about how athletes had been
punished and tortured for failure under Saddam. I think it may have been
Uday in charge of the torture.

Yahoo! I am so happy to see canoe/kayak slalom, thought they might not have
that event this year. It is very expensive to build those whitewater courses.
I went to the canoe/kayak event during the Atlanta Olympics. It was a VERY
exciting competition. Wish I was at this year's, NBC only shows the
highlights, though it is more than they've shown in the past.

Loving the swimming and diving, too.

I certainly am. Incredible displays of athleticism. Terrible admissions of
sport taken too far in many societies.

These are Olympians in the truest sense of the word. Seen them, admired
    their courage.

  6. It's just a pity they all take drugs.

How do you know that? Are you one of them? Are you a supplier? Do you
know them all personally? Or is it the stupid media that makes you say
that? If you believe the media, I have some swamp land to sell you.

I competed in an arena with pros in a sport. Were there drugs around? Yes.
    Was everyone taking them? No.

    Enjoy,
    Curt

  8. I think it would be cool if the bans on performance enhancing
drugs were completely lifted. Then, it would not just be an athletic
competition, but a scientific competition as well. When someone wins a
gold medal, they could stand on the podium next to the doctor that created
whatever drug they're on, and they could both get a medal!

I have only 3 flaws. My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

Don't say this on alt.bicycles.racing! You'll get death threats. (Or,
you could also post about how much you like your bicycle helmet; you'll
    get even more death threats.)

I don't ride a bike anyway. But my next door neighbor's 4 year old
daughter has a really cute helmet with stickers on it.

You don't need drugs to make a competition scientific.....just look at Lance
Armstrong's 6th win of the Tour de France....he was using all kinds of
scientific knowledge for both his training (diet, too) and in the
development of his equipment (wind tunnel tests of bike, suit, helmet, etc).

Also, with a drug, you don't know how much is man vs how much is drug.
Also, drugs have nasty side effects, afaik.
