Sounds fun actually. I need to start playing. Golf was never fast or
violent enough for me. But now that I'm old and decrepit, I'm thinking
of

Same with me. I thought golf was a sissy game and didn't start
playing until I was in my early 30s. It was my youngest son who got
me playing.
It certainly isn't a sissy game either as walking 18 holes can be very
grueling. The back nine at Afton is all ski slopes except for number
10 so you can imagine the elevation changes. Plus, what other sport
can you think of were you can hit a ball over 1000 feet if you can
generate enough clubhead speed.

Geez, Hanson, you're starting to sound like my 70 year old father in law.
Golf can be fun, but make no mistake - it is a sissy game. If you're
walking and carrying it's not too bad, I guess. I used to caddy for a bunch
of wannabe rich [censored] when I was 12 or so. Bunch of whiny old sissies.
I don't agree with you that it is a "sissy game", but it is a lot
different to most other sports in which I have been involved.
It is the difference that is perhaps it's attraction, and in my own
case as the summer approaches and my clubs reappear, I am full of
enthusiasm. Unfortunately, it is not too long before I begin to find
the novelty wearing off. I find that eighteen holes gets to be too
repetitive and too long to complete, and I begin to get bored.
I find nine holes much less boring, but not many keen golfers want to
play only nine holes and it becomes difficult to find people to play.
Fortunately, some of my rugby club chums are of the same inclination,
and we find it a relaxing way to spend the summer. It is surprising
the amount of money that changes hands during a four-ball nine hole
'friendly' game!! ;o)
However, we are never too disappointed once August/September reappears
and we are wander to our usual more robust forms of exercise.
