OT:: Miracle cloths

I'm a Swiffer fan... go to their website to learn how to properly
prepare (fluff) the refills for maximum effectiveness. And dusting is
my least favorite chore after vacuuming, but Swiffer makes it so easy,
and fast, it's practically enjoyable. And forgeddabout the
look-alikes, not even close.

Nancy, I'm with you, those Miracle Cloths are fantastic. The only use
for (actually, use about) Swiffer dusting is when what you may be
dusting around is easier to get to than the cloth may be (though I
haven't seen/used any Swiffer but the small cut-up one on a handle)
because the dusting need is aropund something you'd not move.

Remember not to put them in the dryer. I did this once and the cloth
lost that special magnet quality and became just an expensive rag.

No reason... just sucks... o-kay.

I especially like the universal joint telescoping extender handle,
great for reaching overhead lighting fixtures, door/window tops, crown
mouldings, anything above normal reach... and they're *flat*, slips
easily into those narrow crevices that get dusty from non-use... great
for dusting CD case racks... what? Even slips between the jewel cases
so they don't need to be removed if all you want is a quickie.

I'm with Sheldon on the Swiffer! I don't know why, but it does make
dusting almost fun (the commercial with the woman dusting her friend's
house sums it up). I think it's kind of amazing that something so low
tech is so revolutionary. Same thing with those new toilet brushes
with the disposable pads... why did it take so long to invent these
things???

I've put mine in the dryer with no adverse effects, still picks up the
dust and not just move it around. The guy that I bought mine from at
the flea market said absolutely *NO* fabric softener of any kind. I
followed his advice and they work great!

That's interesting. Maybe it was the particular brand I bought. It's
been awhile, but IIRC the package said not to place in the dryer.
Maybe it said with other items, I could be wrong. In either event, I
did on both counts and the cloth came out sticking to its own sides
and covered with all sorts of thread and lint. From that point on, it
didn't work in the same way. I recently bought a large package of
micro fiber (I think that's the generic name) cloths from Costco.
There were a bunch of them in one package for about $8. I'm gonna put
them in the dryer and see what happens. Live dangerously, I always
say.

Ditto about the Swiffer fluffy duster - it's especially wonderful
between the stereo components and other hard-to-reach areas. I use the
WetJet for our hardwood floors, too. I learned recently that the
WetJet bottletops can be pried off and filled with the cleaning
solution of choice (and cheapness).

As for as that other horrible chore, I have a Roomba Discovery (latest
generation) that has greatly eased my hatred of vacuuming. I still go
over a little bit by hand - corners and edges, mostly - but it's been a
big boost! There's some questions about long-term durability, but so
far (3 wks), it's been AWESOME. Goodbye cat hair forest! Hello
carpet!

OHMYGAWD. I can't believe that they DID invent them. What is so scary
about keeping a toilet bowl brush in a stand, after you've cleaned with
it. THe cleaner supposedly worked on the bowl so I figure it should work
on the brush too?

I'm not concerned with the brush being contaminated; it's just a big
pain. A brush doesn't dry right away; it drips. The stupid stand
thing is a pain because it tips over and then there's a wet,
stand-less brush to deal with. Maybe it works if you have a large
bathroom and don't have to put the brush behind the toilet, but my
bathroom is tiny. Plus, the bristles on a regular brush are stiff so
when they get bent when cleaning under the rim, it sends spray all
over. I tried various brush/stand combos for years and was so happy
to toss mine out when they came out with the disposable pad ones, and
could also trade in the bottle of toilet bowl cleaner for a packet of
pads.

I could use Swiffers and toilet cleaner pads multiple times a day for
a lifetime and never approach the environmental impact of disposable
diapers for one baby or bottled water containers for one runner or
someone who commutes by car 30 min to work or drives an SUV. But I
use these cleaning things only a couple of times a month.

I do use a lot of paper towel though :>
