OT: Margaret made me do it!

OMG! I'm just glad I didn't have a mouthful of iced tea! It also gives
new meaning to the term "porta pottie"!

Speaking of which, when our last home was under construction we pulled up
in front one day to check the progress. We discovered a "catchy" company
name on the porta-pottie sitting near the curb... Scottie's Potties.

Cute! Years ago when they were doing construction along the river in
downtown Memphis there was a huge crane parked down there. Guess what the
name on the side of the crane was? Ichabod! LOL

Chamomile is about the only tea that I like to drink hot, but I can't say
that it helps me sleep. One of my favorite teas to drink iced, besides my
usual Earl Grey, is Red Zinger. Good quality is hard to find, but I
sometimes order it from New York.

I think your photos taken from behind the waterfall are great -- to me,
they seem unique and I'd guess that no one else would be likely to shoot
them. It might be fun for your audience to try to guess what those two
photos are...you might get some interesting responses!

The next two photos, of the outside of the waterfall, are probably not
that unique, but they are interesting because they provide context for
the inside-the-waterfall shots.

The CRW_5311 subway concourse shot is cool -- I'm not sure how unique it
is...it might be a view that people have seen a thousand times, but
never bothered to snap before (but I don't know Philly). With that in
mind, it would be interesting to see that shot cropped a little closer,
so that you didn't have quite enough information to tell what it really
is...and then show your original shot, where it becomes clear. (My
husband does goofy stuff on our computer w/ digital photos...he'll bring
one in, zoom in super close on some ridiculous detail, and have me guess
what it is...and then he'll zoom out a bit at a time, at last showing me
the original photo).

CRW_5386 makes me wonder what it would look like to stand directly
beneath that mast thingie and shoot straight up.

CRW_5437...I love this shot. What I love is that a few people are
looking at the toilet seat guy, but he seems unaware of them...and
others in the picture appear not to notice, as if they're just waiting
for the light to change and hadn't noticed anything unusual. Ho hum!

Whoops, Stan, that's all you're going to get of my completely clueless
opinions tonight...my little guy's crying again. Have fun and thanks
for sharing! YOu should get a good laugh out of those toilet trikes!!!

The toilet bowl race pix are great! Actually all the photos are great but
my faves are CRW_5253 and CRW_5255. Thanks for sharing.

Agreed, I much prefer spitting iced tea on my keyboard. Lightly
sweetened, squeeze of lemon. If it's hot, then plenty of sugar, no
milk, no lemon. And definitely a biscuit -- just leave the plate,

That's a good idea, especially considering the photography class I am
taking meets right across the street from those waterfalls!

As my photographer instructor has said several times, "we're in a crop
free zone" but you make an interesting point.

Thanks for your comments. You know more about photography than you give
yourself credit. I am heading to class tonight to work on these photos
in the lab and to get a feel for how others in class think of them
before I present them officially on Tuesday. I can't wait to see what
the reaction I get from my fellow classmates is!

All those photos were shot with a Canon Digital Rebel which is a 6.3
megapixel camera. The lens I used for all of those photos is a Canon
50mm prime lens and the aperture was probably around 2.6 for those
waterfall shots, but I am not certain. I can check on that later though
if you are really curious. For those waterfall shots (CRW_5253,
CRW_5255, CRW_5258), I wanted a narrow depth of field, but not too
narrow. My lens goes to f1.8, but I have found that setting offers too
narrow a depth of field for most situations.

I shot about six of each photo and each exposure was at a different
aperture. I allowed the camera to select the shutter speed, but since it
was very sunny out, most of the time, it ramped up to 1/4000 of a second.

The comments everyone made were great! Thanks. If anyone wants to be put

I also like the waterfall shots.

Just a comment about the toilet races. You took sharp, colorful images that
recorded the event. You may have been severely limited as a spectator to
get really good shots, but you should try to put some "action" into them.
Slow shutter speed, wide aperture, pan with the moving object and blur the
background a bit. This would allow the spikes to blur. It came close in
the 5438 with the bicycle.

I liked 5236 also. You can use it in an illustration to evoke some thoughts
on the politics of City Hall with the One Way sign.

Thanks for some inspiration. My cameras have been gathering too much dust
the past couple of years. Time to do a little more myself.
