OT Laundry Detergent

Mom always used Tide, I just buy what's on sale. None of them
seem to work any better than the other, although there are some
generics that I haven't tried. I usually stick to liquid Purex

If you want to go cheap but effective try Arm and Hammer. They make
good toothpaste too.

Tide still wins in cleaning contests! It has some kind of husks
or some stuff in it, at least the powdered kind does. The problem
with it is, it is hard on skin. It is a very harsh detergent.

I have a scientific way of selecting a detergent. I go with the one
I like the smell of. 🙂 Gain, original scent, with bleach has been
my fav for years. Until I found it--it was Purex or Arm and Hammer.
They both work just as well as Gain, but Gain smells better. Kind of
peppery clean. (I hate florals on anything but flowers! And baby
powder scent literally gags me. I like fresh and clean scents. Whatever
that means.)

I like the liquid detergents. Any brand. The one thing I like to do is ad
Oxy to whites. I find it makes a noticeable difference and I like it better
than bleach.

I hate scents. I buy Planet because it has no added
scent ingrediants.

My wife prefers Liquid All unscented, but I can't tell any difference
between any of the name brands, liquid or powder.

I concur...

Laundry detergent is laundry detergent. The only thing I'm picky about
is the way it smells, but most of the time we get whatever is lowest in
price. Even store brand/generic.

I've used brands I wasn't crazy about, I pretty much just stick with
Tide powder, original. But, I bought a bottle of All small and mighty,
Free and Clear, or some such. In the white bottle. I use that on
sheets because some show said it's the only one that kills dust mites.
Does it? I don't know. No worries about scents, etc., I like that.
I might make the switch and use it for everything.

I used Cheer for years but it fell from grace being number one so
switched to Wisk.

Family I knew in prior city I lived in were getting boxes of laundry
detergent from Greece sent by family members but cannot be sold here in
states legally.
Their clothes were the cleanest on the block which reminds me to look
them up and see if offer still stands that I can put my order in for a
years worth.

I use Kirkland (Costco brand) liquid. If I think something needs a
cleaning "boost" I add a handful of borax powder (which is also a
great all-purpose cleaner).

It's probably because of phosphates or something along those
lines. Surely it's not important enough that you need to pollute
like that?

90% of the time I use powdered Tide. However, whatever I use, it is
perfume and dye free. I dunno, those added ingredients make me itch
around the waistband. Always had my finger in the waist of my slacks
and scratching. Going perfume and dye free has kept me itch free!

I have a front end loader and use All 3x HE liquid detergent w/no
fragrance...and like it.

I actually like Fab liquid a lot. It cleans well and smells nice.
I also use Arm & Hammer liquid.
I have three brands that I prefer and will buy whichever of them is
least expensive when I need detergent.

In no particular order: (all are liquids, btw)
Arm & Hammer w/bleach alternative
Fab w/bleach alternative
Ajax (w/bleach alternative)

It's just me so a 100 oz bottle lasts me 5-6 months.

I don't use P&G products, unless they were brands I used before the
Evil Empire bought the company out. They've bought up so many smaller
companies these days it's hard to avoid them but I really dislike so
many of their business practices (environmental concerns for one
thing, I've heard horror stories of how badly they treat some of their
workers, for another) that I try to avoid them if at all possible.
Just on principle. So I don't use Tide.

I had similar problems around the waistband and also in the underarm area. I
finally traced it to using fabric softener (both liquid and dryer sheets). I
haven't used fabric softener in about 20 years due to that problem. I also
try to get the perfume and dye free detergent if I can, but that doesn't
seem to be much of a problem for me compared to the fabric softener. The
other thing that bothers me is scented and deodorant bar soaps. I have to
use something pretty pure and mild or I get similar problems to what I get
with the fabric softener. Luckily some of the cheapest bar soaps are the
ones that don't have any "extras" in them.

The dryer should be all dust mites need. And unless you're also
vacuuming the mattess constantly, you're really not going to make much
of a dent in them.

Actually, if the pillowcase is pretty clean, I'm happy with that.
I have pillow covers that I wash, too. Don't get me wrong, I'm
not germ phobic or anything, but I was waking up with the sniffles
every morning, so I figure, what the heck.

Arm and Hammer free - it's hypoallergenic and does a great job on
whites and colors as well, in all water temperatures. I sometimes
throw in a dose of Oxyclean if I need to (kid stuff, mainly).
