Well, I have all next week off from work at the after school program, so I'm going to pound the pavement and look for a new job. The after school job is only part time, and the movie theater job is only weekends, so I need something in the mornings that pays well. I've never had any luck applying for jobs online or through the newspaper, so I'm going to try face-to-face. I'm not actually sure what kind of job I want, but there are several businesses near where I work now, so I figure if I just come in and fill out applications, it couldn't hurt. I may even apply at Curves, where I used to be a member. Wish me luck!

To heck with luck - be aggressive. Find someplace you really want to work and offer the owner a free trial. You work for them for a set time period - say a week - and if at the end they don't think you're what they're looking for they tell you so and you leave without pay. If you *are* what they're looking for they pay you and you have a new job. If you believe in you other people will too.

yeah it would also work if planning some grand theft job and they need an inside man....offer to work for free, give them false ID - I doubt they'd need a social security number if theyre not paying you, rob the place...leave with a good bulk of cash and products....then sell them on e-bay....jobs-a-goodun as they say!
Be sure to tell all your friends that you are looking for a job. The know what's available in their company or know someone who is looking for help. I got my job that way. An old coworker of mine has a sister in law who was looking for someone. She recommended me and I got the job. And I will add that she's a great boss and I love my job and new career however I would still like to hit the lottery so I don't have to work 🙂

I suppose that could happen. For someone with a criminal bent it'd be short work to create a SS ID card and a phony resume designed to get the job (with buddies manning the phone numbers given for references) though.

You "guess" incorrectly. Cooks and wait staff and kitchen personnel are quite different categories.
