OT JC How is the new school year going

I am doing fine. Just maintaining around 187 or so. That is what I am
going to do for a month or so and then hit it hard again. I am not on low
carb right now and it seems not to matter much.

Apologies for not responding sooner. Shortly after my post,
our newsgroup server went down and just came back up today.
Just when I was feeling chatty, too. I hope they refund
me for the two days I lost : )

SO and I have been "cocooning"(?)a lot lately for some
reason. Does low-carbing have something to do with more
closeness to a mate : )

I'm going to Chicago on 10/21 for four days. Then to
Baltimore two weeks after that. God, I love to travel!!!

The pup is only about a year old, my goodness. They're just
like children, eh? Oh, to be so carefree, with nothing on
your mind but play, eat, and sleep (and get into trouble)!

I suspect students will only try if you expect nothing less
of them and set high standards, for the most part. You have
to start state exit tests now for April? If you weren't
such a good teacher, you'd have less work : )

Okay, enough of the chattiness tonight. I'm off to watch
the debates shortly! I sure hope Bush puts on a better show
than he did last week. Maybe he watched Cheney to see how
it's done.

The preparation for the tests starts the moment that the students enter the
high school as freshemen. The work I'm doing is integrating an ongoing
comprehensive review of all relevant materials into the the regular
curriculum(s).

But the operative word here may be "seem."

There are certainly bad teachers out there, but no one would last in any
high school talking like he does here. For whatever reason, some people
let loose on the internet in ways they would never act in r/l. I don't
know why, but I have a lovely friend who is a world-class jerk on the
net. She *loves* being a jerk, and even uses her real name. I know I
would NOT like her if it were my only exposure to her. In r/l she is
wealthy, has a wonderful husband and kids, is in hot demand as an
interior designer, who also does a lot of work for homeless people.

I have always pictured jc as like the sergeant in "An Officer and a
Gentleman" - trying to motivate people the way some real macho guys do.

Anyway, it's a thought.
