    Perhaps it is the angle or the shot, but that deer looks pretty thin to me. Been seeing some very
    stout mule deer lately in this area.

    Your getting it too late in the season. You want it fresh in the early fall when their bellies are
    still full of sweet grasses, fruits, nuts, and berries.

    Our neighbor has a 200+ acre apple and pear farm and the deer I harvest from that land is incredibly
    sweet, tender and juicy if bagged right in the first few weeks of the season. you can literally
    taste the apples and pears in the flesh

    Of course preparation plays a key roll as well.. flank steaks simmered in cider, braised tenderloin
    in chipotle's & adobo, a slow cooked roast with squash and sweet potatoes, a freshly butchered, 1"
    thick steak, seared over an open oak fire, YUMMY!
