Jill, I think you should definitely get a picture of yourself digging
into a Maid-Rite. Just don't dribble any loosemeat on that work-of-art
T-shirt!

I've never seen a Maid-Rite place anywhere around here. But at last year's
county fair, there was a stand that was selling something that was
apparently similar. It was like a sloppy joe without the sauce. I wasn't
impressed, but the real Maid-Rites may be much better. We'll need a full
report.

as to post on alt.binaries.food for those who can view binary ng's. Might
have to smuggle the camera in to some places, but I'll manage!

Thanks! Not "impressed" was the way I felt when I saw the "Rossburger" on
the menu last year in Bettendorf. Didn't try one because the description of
loose *steamed* ground beef on a bun didn't seem all that spectacular.
Apparently they are very similar to Maid-Rites; I don't know which came
first (nor do I much care LOL). Ross' Restaurant opened in 1965 (and I
think the waitresses - you just can't call them servers) all started at that
time!

The fresh pork in the Davenport area is sensational as is the fresh corn - High
as an elephants eye by the Fourth of July.

It's not that close to you anymore, Carol, but there is a Maid-Rite
in Minnetonka (west metro Twin Cities for you non-Mini-snow-tans);
I've been there a couple of times and it's just like being at Iowa
Maid-Rites. Except for the accent. :-)
