Google Earth. Its like mapquest, but with actual satellite imaging- a
incredible free program....I could even see my father in-law's pool and

have you seen any of the "blocked areas"? Gov't areas, stuff like that

Can I get some help? I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Even
though I can find the URL, I can't find anything on the web site main
page for "earth" much less get it to work! I went to
http://www.earth.google.com
Once I got there I had a Google menu, there were several terms to choose
from, but there was no "earth" as a selection as a selection to click on
anywhere on the page. I tried typing my address in on the "search"
function, but got nothing.

Once you get to the Google page, what are you supposed to do?

You can view thesame thing online without installing the spyware on your
desktop.

some towns were blurry-my town for one. We wondered if it is the satellite
reception has anything to do with it. the White House in Washington seemed
blurry, but the Jefferson Monument was very easy to find. I spent a while
cruising around New York City. tilt the view a little for a realistic view.

download the program google earth. I inputted your Washington, DC address-
you have a flat roof with trees in the front yard? some of these addresses
are off a few houses.

you have every kind of restaurant you'd ever need there !

What you are seeing is information from a lot of still satellite
photographs - the program smoothly transitions between them so it *looks*
like what you are seeing is a real-time movie.

The satellite photographs are of varying ages; the ones of my house are
between two and five years old, and were taken in the late fall or winter
(the photos of my house are sufficiently high-resolution that I can tell
this from my landscaping). In some areas the transition between different
photos is obvious; along one of the roads in my town there is a large
commercial lot that happens to be on the border of two different photos. It
looks like one triangular section of the lot is wooded and the remainder is
cleared and under construction - the dividing line cuts right across the
building pad - in reality the photos were simply taken some time apart.

Also, some areas are photographed in different resolutions. In general,
large urban areas tend to be photographed in the highest resolution;
wilderness in the lowest resolution, and smaller towns are hit-and-miss.

Re: the White House, it is blurred for security reasons, as are many other
military and government facilities.

But you can see Red Square in Moscow in great detail. ;-)
