me as rather odd. It's not something I've encountered in any other NG
that I've participated in. In particular, the idea that people might
be posting often in order to get to the top of the posting frequency
rankings strikes me as too weird for words...

For some years Adrian provided monthly stats but I have to confess I
started it all off with a thread entitled (IIRC) profuse posers with the
numbers collected manually. It wasn't long before someone corrected the
imagined typo (posters) and started a new thread.

If I ask a question and it provokes lots of replies, I wait a while
until the clamour (and gratuitous insults) die down, then follow-up my
original post thanking everyone who gave a helpful response and telling
the rest to [censored]. :-)
