  1. I just bought a new light for my bicycle so I can ride at night. I bought
a Planet Bike one watt LED headlight. It is awesome! Anyway, today was my
birthday. I rode my bike into the city (about 10 miles of trail and road) I
played in my volleyball league and then went out for beer. On the way back
around midnight, I used my lights for the first time. Got a new blinky to.
It was so cool. I loved it. The freedom you feel on a bike is like no
other. Knowing you can ride and not worry about gas or anything and just
pedaling away. Really a great experience. What a beautiful night for a
    ride.

Just wanted to share my great day!

  2. Curt - I totally agree with you about how good it feels to ride at night.
Of course, I'm in Holland, and we've decided not to buy a car (or cars)
while we're here, so I don't have much of a choice when it comes to riding
    my bike...

My favorite is when we go out to dinner. We sit and eat our meal with a
couple of glasses of wine, then hop on our bikes (remembering to turn on the
lights), and casually cycle home. Since Holland has such nice wide bike
paths, we (my husband and I) can chat or hold hands while we ride. Totally
different experience from getting into a car after a meal. Not only does
the cool evening air and the freedom feel good, but it also feels good to
know that I'm not sitting on my ass after dinner, but actually being active.

Now, I'm not always so happy with biking home in the evenings when the wind,
rain and snow kick in, but I hope this is a habit that we can continue once
we get back in the US.

  4. Wow, Holland, haven't been there in many years. I was talking to someone
about that for bicycling. I know it is great over there. We are lucky in
Pittsburgh to have some really good bike paths as well, but from what I hear
in most of Europe people really look at bicycles as a mode of
transportation. We are more into SUV's and anything that sucks down as much
gas as it can in the US as you know.

Sounds like you have a nice time riding and not bothering with a car. I am
sure you are really experiencing the area because of that.

    Enjoy,
    Curt

  5. Thanks Bear. You should get a bike an enjoy it. Nothing like the feeling
really. I have had motorcycles and they are nothing like the feeling of
using your own power to move yourself.

Bear, bicycles have model years just like cars. Starting in September, the
'05 models started showing up. This is a great time to get good reductions
    on '04 bikes.
