For *years* I've had the earworm of lyrics from an album I heard nearly 30 years ago... kid you not. I was one of those albums a mate had, so I heard it loads and never got round to buying it. Stupid me. So for all these years I've had earworm snippits of lyrics, melody and I could remember the album cover in general detail but *never* the name of the group. Over the years I've done periodic web searches and always turned up a blank. Until today! Found it! Stackridge 'Man in the bowler hat'. But... it's discontinued! WWWWWAAAAHHHH!!!!
I shall have to do searches for used copies for sale! And in CD format too, as I can't play vinyl any more!
Managed to get snippits of the tracks to listen to on Net... you should have seen the look of horror on Nathan's face. So I reminded him that should he reach the ancient years of his mother and father, no doubt there'll be the odd tune from his youth that he'll look back on with fondness as his his offspring look on with an expression of "He's finally flipped.."

I know the problem of vinyl and CDs. I have a vinyl copy of the Sibelius Violin Concerto with Miriam Fried and the Belgian Symphony Orchestra from 1972 that I absolutely love but is getting a bit worn. I can only get it as part of a 12 CD set and I am toying with whether I should buy the whole set for half of one CD.

I've got a cable with standard headphone/microphone plugs on each end. I plug one end into the headphone jack on my stereo, the other end into the microphone socket on my computer, then I can record from my stereo to my PC.
I can't do vinyl, because my turntable isn't working, but I'm gradually converting all my cassettes to MP3. It means that I'm listening again to some great music that I haven't bothered listening to for years, just because cassettes aren't as convenient as CD or MP3.

Unfortunately I am a bit fussy on music quality and digitising through a PC mike channel is a bit limited in that respect. This is the guy who had redone all the audio encoding for his iPod to get better quality

My dad bought a Videologic SonicFury card (I don't know if these are still available though). Basically a rebadged Turtle Beach card for the UK market with different software. The card itself is pretty high-quality (Turtle Beach used to / still do make pro recording stuff).
I can almost guarantee that anything you buy will be leagues ahead of the built-in one on the motherboard which (As I have recently experienced), sucks donkey balls when it comes to headroom for recording! Ideally you'd want an external digitizer, but I guess that'd probably still be serious money.
