Me? I'm a 'putin' rube, dude! (I'm having all sorts of server problems
with RoadRunner last few days; not getting a mountain biking Yahoo Group
e-mails at all, and some other stuff apparently bouncing back to senders.)

Just checked my settings, and the line wrap is 76 (default I assume, since I
never messed with it AFAIR). Also, the "Uuencode" button is selected, for
whatever that's worth.

=v= 70? Dial it back a little more, for readability.

=v= Human factors testing back in the 1980s (when everything
was monospaced fonts) revealed that it's hard to read text in
monospaced fonts when it's wider than 65 columns. There were
a few text processors that formatted things in 64 columns,
which were centered on an 80-column screen by putting a TAB
in front of each line. (TAB is generally 8 spaces.)

=v= I've used 64 characters for years, which leads to the
musical question, Will you still need me? Will you still
feed me?

76 is the default.

70 is probably OK, but OE screws everything up no matter what you do. It's just
a lousy piece of software, at least as far as its text editor goes.

I've been using an add-on utility called OE-Quotefix, which seems to work pretty
well. At least I haven't had too many complaints lately. I've tried a couple
of others, but OE-Quotefix seems to work the best.

Of course, it's best to just dump OE completely. If you're free to do that, I
suggest it. There are plenty of good Usenet and email programs to choose from,
and almost anything else is better. I can't switch right now, because other
software I have depends on Windows Address Book. Until I can change that, I'm
stuck with OE.

OK . . . actually . . . once I figured out that I /was/ using OE for the
news . . . and installed the proper software . . . I'm cookin' with gas!
