Actually, I use leafnode to pull in newsgroup data, so I do
(sort of) have control over the server.

Pan 0.14.2 - I've plonked him six ways from Sunday (took
me a little while to figure out that Pan sets the default
plonk to 30 days) and just set all his threads to
"ignore". Seems to be working, I am now blissfully Vandeman-
free. 🙂

Cool. I'd like to find a way that works with slrn, though.

What I need to figure out is *how* pan recognizes
those threads.

other unrelated newsgroups, and most of the replies as
well. Have you tried using this?

Haven't tried that ... actually, I was thinking of blocking
all messages crossposted to N groups. Just haven't decided
on N yet ...

That being said, I've tried it a bit and it hasn't worked
for me with slrn.

This works great in Xnews, which according to the manual,
"happily steals the scoring system concept from slrn"

Your server MUST support the abilty to score headers if you
don't run something like leafnode, hamster, slrn pull, etc.
Most servers don't, as it places a higher load on them.

tells it that the
. is really a . and not something else. the | tells it that
what follows is separate from what precedes it. So if you
are using a boolean AND or OR, it knows that they are 2
diff entities.

No, I meant that when I use 't' to show headers in slrn, the
responses to MV's posts don't have any reference to
ca.env.etc that I can see. Something totally different (that
I can't right now recall).

ah, that would probably be because the responders limited
