Museums? In the shop at the Manchester museum there were
various war videos, fictional and documentary. It's a long
shot but . . .
As a relevant side note: my close mate's brother is building
a replica of the Colditz glider in his garage (and part of
his house!). He plans to fly it one day, but is now well
into his 60s. The wings have been examined and passed by the
appropriate certification authority, but he has only
produced a half size mock-up of the cockpit. Some of the
spars are made from timber imported from the US.
A version has already flown, of course. Martin got hold of
the original plans from the prison, and was approached by a
TV company who offered funds and labour if he could complete
it to a deadline. He indignantly turned it down, because he
wanted to build it all himself, and they went elsewhere,
after wheedling the plans off him.
He has visited Colditz and has also met Douglas Bader, who
was one of the enthusiasts for the building project.
BTW, I have heard that the real situation in Colditz was far
removed from what was portrayed in the series, but I can't
remember the source.
My wife was totally hooked on the series though . . .
