What a brilliant effort. Puts a new perspective on what it must have been
like.

The photographer griping that the "media" only showed pictures of the
worst damage, and then he has a slide show of looters, damaged
buildings, destroyed cars, flooding -- in other words, the exact same
photos you see from AP and Reuters.

The photographer confessing his anxiety about being the only white
people in a sea of black people at the Convention Center.

Au contraire! I heard a radio interview with the editor of the
Times-Picayune where he explained that reporters were pedalling all
over town, collecting info, riding back to HQ and filing stories. And
that's how the levee breaches got discovered--on bikes. (Take that,

My wife told me this morning to go see the doctor about my sinus
infection. I'm being *way* too grouchy to her, the kids and the dogs.

I'm somewhat accustomed to hanging out with the brothahs. I appreciated
the honesty and realize that many Americans would probably feel the
same way. I also know that this anxiety is likewise felt by some
African-Americans when they're in the realm of the white folks.

No doubt. (I grew up in the Washington, DC area and played trombone in a
couple of otherwise-all-Black soul bands, so I'm no stranger to feeling like
[censored] White Bread, either. Was always quite comfortable; never felt
threatened or intimidated.)

I thought the pictorial as told from a resident's POV was pretty
compelling -- especially the "immediate aftermath" stuff where everyone
thought they'd come through the storm nearly scott-free. (At that point /no
one/ knew the flood waters were coming.)

Oh well. Maybe it's cached somewhere?
