OT Epson Perfection 2400 Scanner problems

Self powered as in from its own PSU or from the PC ?

If from the PC it could be drawing to much current, with
anything else you may have running at the same time on the
Hub. Only other thing I can think of is to check you have
the latest drivers for it ???

Only the usual troubleshooting tips ..

1) Try attaching it to another (direct) USB port.
2) Try it on another computer (you'll need the driver disk,
obviously).

if it fails both of those, send it back before the warranty
runs out. I assume you checked Epson's website for updated
version(s) of the copier applet (&/or smartpanel, if you are
using that). Also look in the event logs (my computer,
manage, event viewer) to see if anything is recorded there
.. however it does not sound good.

I also assume that this has worked in the past, and has
suddenly quit working ..true? Did you do anything (that you
can remember!) around the time it quit?

As in the hub has an external powersupply. Scanner also has
it's own power supply too.

Although the Belkin USB hubs are self-powered, that is only
for certain devices. It sounds to me like you need to plug
the USB hub into a power supply. My Belkin USB hub shuts
down if I try and use the card reader that is attached to it
with a full 1GB flash card in
it. It works fine with the power supply attached. Self-
powered hubs only work without power with things like a
mouse, keyboard, modem attached etc.

So, either use the power supply (mine came with one) or try
plugging it directly into a USB port on your PC (as
suggested by somebody else).

The Hub manual defines self powered as having the power
supply plugged into the hub.

I have tried the scanner plugged in to the computers usb
port, still got the same problem.

I'll try the scanner on my fathers machine.

If it still doesn't work, then I'll get in touch with Epson.

Well, tried the scanner on another machine, same result -
scanner shutting down half way through a scan.

Same thing also happens when I boot into Linux - the scanner
was working before.

Tried with the scanner conncted directly to the USB ports on
the machine - so it's likely to be a hardware problem.

However, I got in touch with Epson tech support, they
suggest that I go to an Epson Express Repair centre, which
I'll do in Falkirk tomorrow (and possibly take a look at the
Falkirk Wheel).
