  1. I don't know they haven't done it already.

Spring Saddam Hussein from prison, elect him Mayor and Chief of Police of
New Orleans and Bush will find the resources to "liberate" New Orleans within hours.

    Easy done.

Don't thank me, just send money 😉

    The Bushwacker

    ps

The United States has just PROVEN itself to be a pathetic joke of a country. The
entire world is shaking its head in bewildered amazement. The terrorists have been
given new heart and resolve by this demonstration of American bumbling
incompetence and lack of concern for its poorer citizens. If there are any decent
citizens left in the US, migrate now, before the US becomes a "fourth" world country.
They won't make the grade as a third world country. Like Russia before it, the other
superpower, America is in decline, fading fast.

    Byeeeee America

  2. The saddest thing is America was expected to help all other countries,
but you notice none have tried to help us out on this??? I say bring
our troops home to help us here, to hell with the rest of them!

I call [censored] here. Starting with Venezuela early in the week, and
continuing, dozens of countries have offered aid of medicine, search and
rescue teams, food, oil, etc. Searching news.google.com for "Katrina
foreign aid" turns up over 1000 hits. Just scanning the first page of
hits, I see offers from: Sweden, Norway, Japan, Taiwan, and Russia. The

No. That's not the saddest thing. The really saddest thing is the abject
ignorance of some of the folks posting here. They make up their mind on a
point of view, and then promulgate it as if it were indeed fact.

More than 60 countries from around the world have offered and/or already
sent help. Our state department has already said that all offers thusly
made have been accepted and received with gratitude.

No, I didn't notice that, but then, I was actually watching and trying
    to learn the truth.

[Headline Sept. 3, 2005]U.S. thanks dozens of foreign countries for aid
    By Sue Pleming
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Friday thanked dozens of foreign
governments -- rich and poor, enemy and friend -- for their offers to help
the world's wealthiest country recover from devastating Hurricane Katrina.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said just as the United States
responded generously to disasters worldwide, so had nearly 60 nations come
to America's side after Hurricane Katrina ripped through New Orleans and
other parts of the U.S. Gulf Coast, killing hundreds and possibly thousands
    of people.

"Today, we are seeing a similar urgent, warm and compassionate reaction from
the international community in response to Katrina," Rice told a news
    conference.

Rice said no aid had been turned down and she was particularly moved by an
offer from Sri Lanka, itself recovering from last year's Indian Ocean
    tsunami.

  6. On FOX news this morning they said more than 60 countries have offered
help of one kind or another.

I just hope we'll say THANKS! and LET them help.

  7. Oddly enough, when I post something positive or contributing to this
site, nobody responds, but everyone jumps on the wagon to claw me to
pieces on something they don't agree with. Just goes to show the
national change of mood and attitude with all that is going on. I work
in customer service and the whole general attitude stinks with most
people these days. A lot has happened to this country and a lot will
still happen, things aren't going to get better anytime soon. I
apologize to those who take or took offense over what I say and to the
others I can just say "bite me" because all are entitled to their
opinions, but now I remember why I quit posting here years ago, when
this place quit being so supportive and contributing. Here I see
people come for help and get bashed and told they make excuses, not
just by a few, but most of the active posters who have some kind of
superiority complex. This place is just pathetic lately. I have and
had friends lost in this storm too. Yes I'm upset, but I try to be
more positive although some [censored] bash down on me too. That's life.
I lost it all in Hurricane Allen in the 80's I do know what it is like
starting over and waiting for help. Luckily we weren't in the 1000's
like this place, I heartily agree that aid is too little and too late.

  8. Your attitude and proper thinking are the one's that are lacking.

Once again you've made a great case for obesity and idiocy being
    inextricably linked.

  9. Gweebles....I hope I wasnt included in those who hurt your feelings. I
just thought you were mistaken, hadnt heard the announcement of other
    countries offering help.

Everything is unfolding one minute at a time---and changes from hour to
hour. It was only yesterday morning my Italian friend said "Why arent
you accepting our help?" Ane i hadnt even heard of the offer OR the
decline of help! All I could do was write back, "What?"

Today we learned of the many offers extended.

Yesterday I was thinking, "Why arent they dropping food and water from
helicopters to "roof" people?" Today, they ARE dropping food and water
to the roof folks, LOL--- Ever heard that old joke, "If you dont like
the weather, stick around a few mnutes! It'll change!"?

The "weather" is changing so fast it's hard to keep up.

Im sorry you lost it all during
"Allen"---I mised "Hugo" by less than a week---thank God.....the coral
reef was so damaged that when I went back to St. Croix, a year later,
most of the wildlife was still gone. My son and I used to find a cup
full of hermit crabs in a few minutews. A year after Hugo, we could
only find three in two hours. Even the bats and mongoose were depleted.
Where you could once snorkle and see schools of 100 or more Angel or
    Parrot fish....you couldnt find one.

I guess Mother Nature gets PMS.....?

  10. Gweebles:

You posted that no other country had offered help as of yet. Several
people corrected this impression (as in fact, at least 60 countries
from across the economic spectrum have offered help). This is
correcting some false notion you had come across. That correction is
part of the marketplace of information. I'm sorry you don't feel it's
useful, but when you shoot off with misinformation and follow with
similarly poorly informed jingoistic nationalism, what kind of response
    do you expect.

As examples, just from this past week (paraphrased):
This thread: If other countries won't help us, f-em and see where we
are when they need help (in fact, on a per capita/per GDP basis, the US
is actually pretty stingy with foreign aid/disaster relief, though in
terms of total dollars, we are #1... additionally, other countries are
willing to help and the State department is making this possible).

Some thread about Oil: OPEC is jacking us all, so screw em (when in
fact, OPEC is only a portion of the oil supply chain that is causing
high gas prices, and probably not the leading determinant, due to the
nature of commodity markets, speculation, one disaster after the other,
    and global refining capacity).

If you're going to have opinions, and put them forward, and not be
"jumped on" and "clawed to pieces", please make them well informed and
well thought out opinions. Or be ready to defend them. I'm sure that
you wish the customers you served were better informed. I know that my
three years in sales would have been much easier with a better informed
    customer.

Last note: If you want support, ask for it. If you want sycophantic
agreement with half-baked politics and policy thoughts, you are
    probably in the wrong place.

  11. You nailed him! Some [censored] comes and posts something untrue and
inflammatory then 'gets his feelings hurt' when other people point out his

She may have been wrong in what she posted, but she's not a [censored] and
she's not a drive-by troll. She's gotten plenty of support here in the
    past.

This particular error is a dangerous one, and here isn't the only place
I've corrected it. What happened in New Orleans is a tragedy of the
first order, and how our leaders have handled it doesn't speak well for
them. But we don't have to go make things worse by spreading
misinformation, especially when it's so easy to go to news.google.com
and find many, many stories about offers of aid from overseas.
