OT:DVD burner

I have an Asus DRW-1608P (an internal drive model) that I installed in
an USB drive enclosure that is capable of receiving 5.1/4" drives . I
went this way because I already had the enclosure (it was sitting unused
because I moved the HD into a smaller enclosure made specifically for
3.5" disk drives). It works well and I can change out the drive, if
necessary, with minimum fuss.

The drive can write DVD+R/RW or DVD-R/RW as well as dual layer. I'm
using the drive primarily for portable backup with DVD-R. Not sure
which is more popular (+R or -R).

Make your own: buy an external housing and the burner of your choice. I
prefer pioneer, with mine being a pioneer 109.

The purpose of enclosure is to convert IDE cable, power cord which are used
for internal drive into a USB compatible one, is it? Does a enclosure work
for internal noraml hard drive? Can a 5.1/4" enclosure work with 3.5"
device, like hard disk?

for internal drive into a USB compatible one, is it? Does a enclosure work
for internal noraml hard drive? Can a 5.1/4" enclosure work with 3.5"
device, like hard disk?

Well, they sell 3.5" and 2.5" enclosures for just that purpose. I don't
think you can, off the shelf, get a 5.25" enclosure to work securely
with a 3.5" drive, unless you're willing to play around a bit. The drive
can plug in (likely) but you'll have nowhere to anchor it. The
enclosures are cheap enough that if you want to make an external hard
drive, you might as well just buy a 3.5" enclosure.

Just ordered NEC ND-3520A and an enclosure from NEwegg.com. Total plus tax
and shipping for about $95.

BTW, most 5.25 enclosure work with 3.5 HDs now.
