  1. Has anyone tried the Palmolive "Aroma Therapy" dishwashing detergent? They
have one with the fragrance of Lavender and Ylang Ylang. I don't know how to
say that, but it smells WONDERFUL! It's not as strong as some other
detergents, for example, I have to rub a little harder than with the lemon
scented Ajax that I normally use, but it smells so nice I don't mind washing
    dishes!

In fact, I wish I could find a shower gel with that fragrance. And maybe a
perfume, too. It really smells NICE!

I didn't think I'd like lavender scented dishwashing detergent, but the
ylang ylang must temper it. Normally lavender is too strong for me, but
this....mmmm I would wear this scent if I could find it!

I have been using that stuff. I hadn't really noticed the smell, but I am
impressed with its effectiveness, and the water stays sudsy much longer that
with the detergents we were using.

I have Colgate's Aroma Therapy Tranquility dish liquid at my kitchen
sink right now, Essence of Rose & Sandalwood fragrance... the color is
a deep midnight blue. Colgate makes a whole array of Aroma Therapy
products in a big assortment of 'flavors', including Bath Gel and Pump
Hand Soap... I also like Colgate's "Foam Works" pump hand soap.

    Pretty darn close!

I switched to Palmolive after Dawn started tearing up my hands. I began
using Dawn back in the 70s and then, seemingly all of a sudden, in the 90s
it was making my hands red, rough, and raw!

My Palmolive choices are the Lavender and Ylang Ylang but I mix it with the
Palmolive Aloe to ensure hand comfort. I just combine a bit of each in my
detergent dispenser and LOVE it. Shaun a Re' is correct that it isn't as
quick at cleaning than the harsher detergents but it really is pleasant
    enough that it's worth it.

That was me who wrote that, Cyndi. :-)
Yeah, I don't think it's as effective on grease as Lemon Ajax or Crystal
White Octagon. But it is so nice smelling and relaxing....ya almost don't
    care! LOL

I have psoriasis on the back of one hand and on the inside of both wrists,
and I find the lavendar/ylang ylang to be pretty mild by itself. I haven't
tried the Aloe b/c that seems counter to the purpose of getting dishes
clean. That's just me, though. It's like "why do they put alcohol, which
dries skin, into moisturizing lotion?" Aren't they at cross-purposes?

The Octagon and Lemon Ajax are a little harsh on my hands, but not as harsh
as Dawn was, i had to stop using that. Regular Palmolive isn't bad, but I
don't care for how the green one smells. I used to LOVE Palmolive's "Pots
and Pans formula". They had it up until maybe 7-8 years ago, and then
discontinued it in favor of the "Scentsations" line of wild smelling
detergents when they were first introduced. What can you do?
Gloves would be the answer but I hate how they feel against the psoriasis.
It's irritating in a different way. The soap and water discomfort is
    preferable to me.

I'll get this ylang ylang stuff again! I wish I could find shower gel with
that exact scent. Very, very nice. Some eau de toilette would be good, too.
    oh well.

I never noticed a problem with my hands after using it, but I can usually
manage to only have to wash dishes every 3-4 days. I have an arrangement with
the other half. I get to make the mess in the kitchen and she will clean it up.

I find most gloves irritating and they always seem to get a pinhole and

Ahhh that's a good point I never thought of.
I don't use a lot of plastics, actually. I have a couple pyrex covered
storage containers that I use to bring my lunch to work in. I was using
Glad ware and Rubbermaid containers for reheating in the microwave and I
started to notice that "plasticky" smell and I realized if I can smell
it, it must be breaking down and what is that doing to me? The fact is,
I've heard it's harmless and I've heard it's not. It's no skin off my
nose to give up plastic containers when I have perfectly good tempered
glass ones that I really like to use, that I know are safe for
    reheating.

About the only plastic I use in cooking is utensils, like spoons and
spatulas, and the bowl for the food processor. Even my cat does not
like eating from plastic....it retains food odors and even she noticed
that. It's just hard to get plastic really clean.

Cats can rather easily develop serious allergies to plastic feeding bowls,
which cause a breakdown off the skin around their mouths and on the chins.
Amazingly, without a couple of weeks of replacing the plastic bowls with SS
    or ceramic, they completely recover.

I think you meant "within", rather than "without".

Mine just flat out won't eat from plastic dishes. I bought one for her, not
knowing. She refused to eat. I put her food into a small corningware...she
ate. Pretty simple to figure out.

It's common. They can cause kitty acne and out breaks of eosinophilic

That was me who wrote that, Cyndi. :-)
Yeah, I don't think it's as effective on grease as Lemon Ajax or
Crystal White Octagon. But it is so nice smelling and
    relaxing....ya almost don't care! LOL

I'll get this ylang ylang stuff again! I wish I could find shower
    gel with
that exact scent. Very, very nice. Some eau de toilette would be
    good, too.
    oh well.

Ooops, my bad! Sorry Sheryl. 😄

We did the Ajax for a bit too - slightly milder than Dawn but still
tore me up. I'm very content with the Palmolive!

For a lotta years I did dishes by hand (only recently began using the
dishwasher) but my hands never touched the dishwater... dincha ever
    hear of rubber gloves?

Lee Valley has the best rubber gloves and at very good prices... I
happen to like this one, a pair would me last through well over a
    thousand dish washings:

I was about to ask that very question, Sheldon. I don't hand-wash dishes
    without wearing rubbers 😉

I don't hand wash dishes unless the dishwasher is on the fritz, so
that's not an issue for me. However, my daughter has such sensitive
skin that she even uses rubber gloves to cut onions.
