Yes, you need a web space somewhere to put the photo. There
are free photo hosting services available on the web if your
ISP hasn't already given you a website. Here's one. There
are many more I'm sure.

http://www.picturetrail.com/

After you upload the pic you can post the link here. You can
also post pictures directly to alt.binaries.food and post a
link here.

No. Go to http://www.ofoto.com . You can upload (download?)
your photo to their site for free. Then send yourself an
invitation to view your 'photo album' from their site. Now
you'll have the link address to post on here for everyone to
view your picture. It's all free. We do this all of the
time. It has been a great back up when we couldn't find the
right disc with a specific picture that we wanted to view.

One observation - when you set up the album to share, you
may or may not want to mark the box that requires people to
sign in/up to view your pictures. Some people are bothered
by it...while others are not. Go figure.

Do it just like Reg said. Compose a regular newsgroup
message Outlook, then press the Attach button, and type in
the filename of the picture. It's best if you shrink the
picture down to a reasonable size first (100K or so - not
the 2meg files that the camera spits out).

What software are you using? Photos are most often stored as
files with a .jpg (or .jpeg) extension. Some software *may*
organize this into 'albums' or collections, by creating
indexes to a set of .jpg files, but each .jpg is a separate
file *somewhere* on your computer or CD disc. They often
have 'names' like 1003406_32.jpg indicating a date/time code
or other arcane info from the camera.

Once you locate your picture or pictures, you can send 1 or
more files to a site (several mentioned in this thread) that
allows posting of photos. You can also post to a binary
group (binary just means something isn't in readable text
format) and tell rfc or rec.gardens to go take a look in the
appropriate newsgroup (alt.binaries.pictures.gardens or
alt.binaries.food). If your ISP advertises some 'personal
web space', you can also put pictures there, and post a msg
with the URL.

I can walk you through some if this if you like. Write to

HTML = Hypertext markup language

As already posted, Hypertext transfer protocol is HTTP.

Let's say your picture is a file called X.jpg Simply attach
X.jpg and post it to a Binary News Group ... using your
news reader.

Well, this is a test only. Disregard the picture - I'm just
getting my feet wet.

Your instructions were invaluable - I already had tried
Yahoo so used that before trying ofoto or any other. (had
already tried HP and one other!). I set up a Miscellaneous
album and put in one picture, then followed your "tutorial".
I can then delete that one picture each time and just post
another picture. That accomplishes my desire to post just
one picture if necessary, rather than all the album/albums.

Many thanks, Cyndi. I am indebted to everyone for
their help.
