    Well, I thank you for the sentiment but . . . .

    I just
went through the "crazed ferret" routine on some new meds before I
threw them down the toilet. Lord, I hope I didn't post while that was
going on. I had some stuff so bad a few years ago that I was sitting
on the bed, reading an imaginary book (turning pages, no less) and
pretending to brush my teeth, until my wife called the doc (who was
actually a family friend) and said "You can do something about this,
or YOU can come live with him". She said the last straw was when I
stood up, shook my finger in the air and said "14,000 dollars - you
    can keep your filthy money".

Okay, YOU can come and clean the partially chewed fettucini alfredo off my
screen and between the keys on my keyboard. Damn pasta is everywhere!

Good grief, where in the world does that
stuff come from? My mom is on the same med, but for a different
reason these days - she takes 10 mg a day. He started me off on 120mg
the very first day, which is way too close to lethal dose for comfort.
OTOH, maybe he'd have done the world a favor <G>.

What medication is that? I want to avoid it.

It was Amytriptiline (that's not spelled right at all) or commonly
known as Elavil, typically used as an anti-depressent but sometimes
used as a pain med, seems to be especially helpful for some people
with migraines, but not all of them. They used it as a pain med for
me after a bad car wreck, because I don't usually tolerate opiate-type
drugs very well. Dang - there goes my future as a heroin addict.
That's not funny, I guess - It could probably be something that
someone is struggling with here right now. Anywhose - maybe I didn't
tolerate that one so well either, because I know it's quite commonly
used. Just because it made me nuts doesn't mean you should
necessarily avoid it. Of course, there was the free entertainment
factor involved . . .Uh - don't ever let them give it to you if you're
taking beta blockers (hi Blood press med, etc) and you have to avoid
certain foods. I think most typically alcohol, hard cheeses and some
kind of nuts, or something like that. Been a long time.

So . . . . how old is she and does she live in the midwest <G>

She's almost 18 now, and lives in the midwest.

I told Crash what you posted, and he said, "That's it. I'm hunting

*grin* I take 50mg of Amitriptylin at night for sleep and to prevent hot
flashes. Another medication that's good for chronic pain (originally used
only as an anti-seizure medication) is Neurontin. I use it to control
mania, although I understand I'm in the minority, in that I actually get
relief from my symptoms. It's also used for the symptoms of diabetic
    neuropathy.

I'm not sure if Lisinopril is a beta blocker or not. I didn't realize that
Amitriptylin was one of THOSE. No, I didn't get the usual warnings about
diet, maybe because the dose is so small? I think the alcohol is red wine,
and chocolate is also on The List. I have so little of any of the
forbidden foods that I'm not gonna worry about it much.

Actually, my son did the same thing and got his belt - he was WAY
better at it than me, but when his school closed down, he sort of
    dropped it. Disappointed.

I went to Karati for a short while - quit because I didn't like the teacher
too mmuch, and it was a 7 mile run to and from the place.

I went to a Kung Fu class precisely one time - the teacher there was very,
very good at it indeed, but he was a total psychopath - I went as a shy
novice, and left with a bloody, swolen tongue and a very badly sprained neck
that cost me a week off work. A pity, because I appreciated Kung Fu more
    than the Karati...

"Amytriptiline" that stuff can indeed be a heavy med...

I don't tolerate opiates, even some opioides - they can make me very ill
now - I blame it on how many DF118's (Di-hydrocodien tartrate) I had to take
after my bike accident and it worked a treat (I was taking in the region of
90 to 180 mg a day before I had to stop, so stopping was painful in more
ways than one..) - bit by bit, I became senitised to it, until in the end it
    was worse than the pain...

at least two of them are dead now...

That's usually the contraindications for MAOI's (mono amine oxidase
