which said because there is a directory for cell phones (opt-in only)
many people jumped to the conclusion that do not call was advisable.

I didn't check because the information came from a usually reliable
source. I should know better.

I don't recall having being asked to "opt in" being on a cell phone
directory. Can't imagine why anyone would, so I registered mine anyway.
For a while I was called by the local newspaper, which apparently has an
auto dial system and will dial random numbers until it reaches one that
isn't a modem or fax. I'd find their number in my "missed calls" list since
I don't use my cell phone unless I'm travelling; I just leave it on the
charger. I started noticing all these missed calls from the same local
number. Had to call them and tell them to cut it out!

I had a call from someone today claiming to be associated with Bell
telephone, my service provider. He started off telling me something about
me being a preferred customer. Then he stopped. I thought I had lost him.
He started his spiel again, but then he stopped. For some reason I listened
to him start up again 5 times. He was obviously reading from a script and
was getting lost in it and having a hard time finding his place. Pathetic.
If I had not been in the middle of cooking dinner I would have indulged his
stupidity a little longer.

I recently had a stalker who got hold of my silent home number. The
creep lives in Victoria, and took to calling me about 5-15 times a day.
After the first couple of calls, I took to answering the piece of [censored],
then letting it jabber on for 30mins or so while I put the phone down
and went and did something else :-)

The funny thing was that the idiot kept calling me back........ and I
kept doing the same thing to it!!!

Thank you, sf! As a matter of fact I haven't had so much as a glass of wine
with dinner this past week. If I were such a drunk this would not be the
case. Bet we can't say the same of this Dan person, whoever he is.

I'll be in Davenport, IA next weekend. Fourth year at the Riverssance Fine
Arts Show 🙂 We're going to eat at The Boat House, which is a fantastic
seafood restaurant with a great deck overlooking the Mississippi River.
Excellent food and service. We're may try Biaggi's for Italian food at
sky's suggestion, although it's a chain which sort of gives me pause.

I finally called in to put my landline on the list the other day. It was
simple and quick. I didn't sign up for my state's donotcall list because
the Attorney General's system wants my name, address and stuff, while I'm
trying to be as anonymous as I can!

I read at one of those sites that the FCC won't allow telemarketers to "war
dial" to wireless devices. Good thinking .gov, for a change!

My answering machine picks up the phone after two rings and plays the sit
tones at the beginning of my message. This foils most of telemarketers
systems and drops my number from their databases.
