Just wondering if anyone here is on BT Broadband and are looking for a cheaper isp. If so I'd like to recommend NDO. I've just changed to them via migration with only 5 minutes downtime, same 512k speed, no download caps (if they did this they would be changing the contract so it would allow you to leave before 12 months), no startup/initial costs and its £19.99 including VAT a month. A saving of £8-10 per month over my old BT account. BT are introducing download caps in January. Ndo can normally switch you over in about 5 working days.
I don't work for them but they seem customer orientated and the news servers seem pretty good. Very pleased with them so far.

Must admit I've dealt with Tiscali in the past and they were pretty terrible customer service wise and I know a lot of people have had problems with them but then you can't really expect great service if there doing a migration package without setup costs for unlimited 512k broadband for £15.99. Bloody good price but I suspect many people will prefer ndo's very friendly customer approach. Ok its £4 extra a month than tiscali but its still a lot cheaper than BT and there a lot nicer too.

Well certain types of account included the standard 512k home package that most people are on I think including previously me. The more people that leave BT broadband the less chance download capacity limits will grab a foothold and become established in the uk.

With some minor exceptions such as Bulldog in London, it all comes from BT Wholesale in the first place anyway. BT Broadband, NDO and all the rest are just resellers of BT Wholesale.
Unfortunately trends are in the other direction. Caps are becoming a differentiator with a range of headline cheap packages coming in but with 1 or 2Gb monthly caps. Most people just see the price and ignore about the caps, which if all you are doing is e-mail and surfing are fine. If you do a lot of gaming, video or audio streaming, you will pretty quickly run out.

If all you want is a bog standard service, Tiscali, Wanabee and BT Openwoe are fine but if you need them to be flexible for you forget it. If you want an ISP who is flexible and helpful then go for one of the smaller guys, Plusnet, Nildram, NDO etc.

Sounds like the same as bt in that its not until january that the download capacity limits start. Perhaps the necessary technology to monitor this isn't yet available. The Wanadoo 1meg £17.99 option only allows you to download 2 gig for a whole month. If you were downloading a large binary file at full speed effectively you would reach your limit in about 5-6 hours of use. The Wanadoo option that allows 30gig of downloads is £27.99. I think the £17.99 account would be suitable for people who only do email and web browsing occasionally and nothing else and want that at full speed but its totally unsuitable for most people I know who do online gaming, downloading etc.
