  1. Does anyone know a way to block a sender using wildcards in
    the name on Outlook Express?

I've been trying to block people who regularly crosspost
since I can't figure out how to block all messages
crossposted to a certain newsgroup. One (pardon my language)
[censored] keeps changing her address by a character or two so
her garbage keeps appearing on my computer.

OK, if I can't do this, should I complain to Lady [censored]
Veteran's service provider? I find her posts really
irritating, and the fact that she takes steps to assure that
she won't be blocked really angers me.

Under message rules, where from line contains "enter full or
parital name", delete it. This will get people who use the
same name, or close to same name, and those who use the same
display name, but change email address constantly.

I'm using OE version 6. There doesn't seem to be an option
to enter partial names, or am I looking in the wrong spot?

Go to Tools, Message Rules, News. Then start a new rule, on
the top selection, do "Where the from line contains people".
On the middle, select "delete it". On the 3rd section, click
"people" and enter a name or partial name without wildcards.
For Lady Veteran, it will delete her posts if you enter any
of these: "Lady Veteran", "veteran", or even as few
characters as "vet". Entering as much as possible though
ensures you're less likely to be blocking people who have a
similar name. Then you can apply the rule to delete what's
there now, and nothing new will come up.

OK, I did that. But when I ran "apply rule now" her message
still appeared. Am I doing something wrong?

Sorry to be so dense about this.

When you clicked apply now, are you sure that
alt.support.diet.weightwatchers was the group you applied it
to? It will fill in the first group on your list unless you
change it. Look for where it says "apply to group" and see
what's listed. If it's not this group, then click browse and
then select it. Then apply and that should take care of it.

That did it! Thanks so much, Chrys!

  8. I used that rule with only a few letters in, like "vet" for Lady YouknowWho,
but stopped when I found out I was missing out on other posts from people
who had the same letter combination in their name. For me, the "ignore
conversation" still works best : I see the first post, hit Message - Ignore
Coversation and everything 's gone :-)
