Growing up in Michigan, we'd collect cans (or bottles, but cans were
easier to haul) any chance we got.
A few times we'd hit the jackpot, collecting after a U of M football
game, or other big event (often racing/fighting other kids for them) but
the best was if we happened to find a good cache in Ohio or even
Ontario. IIRC, the cans were basically worthless there so if you could
find them and bring them back it could really be worth your while.
Never hit the jackpot like this guy's place though!

It was a good idea. It gave income to the kids and homeless and kept the
place clean.

Heh, I think the shipping costs might prove prohibitive ',;~}~

I have 4 shells here now, a small one I have built up already and it sounds
great, and 3 large shells awaiting re-heading (I'd started on one using
quite thick calf skin instead of goat, but the bottom ring was poorly
welded, so with the humongous amounts of tension needed for such a thick
skin, the ring broke as I pulled the last tuning knot - prolly a total of 30
hours work into the job (I take a LOT of care and time - each drum is a work
of love, and a piece of art when done), including re-finishing and sealing
parts of the shell, soaking and fitting the skin, MUCH rope pulling for the
tuning etc. - ARGH!!! Heheheh...

I'll have a wood shop one day, and make my own shells too ',;~}~
