That's temperature; not "wind chill".

That's not ridiculously cold for the area. During my 7 years of
living in MN, my apartment in Minneapolis saw -38 F once, and
regularly saw temperatures below -20 F (every single morning for
almost two weeks in January of '97) for at least a few strectches
every winter.

Heck, I regularly would go scuba diving
(http://www.kaszeta.org/rich/album/ice/index.html, although it was a
balmy 5 degrees that day) in -20 weather. (Still do, in fact, but my
place in NH rarely gets colder than -5, I gotta go north of the White
Mountains for the real cold.)

It's not that bad. Only part I disliked about subzero weather was how
I could drive for 15 minutes and still not have warm air coming from
the car's vents.

Entirely possible -- but not in the Twin Cities. It's maybe 17-20 above
right now; and snowing. Fifteen deg high tomorrow and the January Thaw
next week - in the 30s. We're 85% behind in our snowfall for the
season. Might get 9 inches by the time this is over. Weather guy's on
right ow -- Northern MN, probably. Maybe Embarrass or Tower. Tower had
-60 maybe 6-10 years ago one February morning.

I could go outside to get the paper but I'm not sure I could be the
delivery person. :-)

Thanks for the pictures, Richard - you are a stoic. Brrrrr - I can't
imagine being that cold - in Maryland, we start complaining at about 20ºF.
and think it's unbearable if it goes to 0-10ºF.

It's been crazy here. Highs in the 60's (almost 70) last week. A bitter
change last weekend. Cold this week - a big 2 inches of snow yesterday, but
6 to 8 inches forecast for tomorrow. (I heard that North Carolina had one
inch of snow yesterday and closed the schools.)
